gmerek2 October 18, 2013 October 18, 2013 I was curious about this so I ran an experiment since I get really bored sometimes. I dumped live brine shrimp in over the pumps to see what they look like when they come out. Most were fatally injured a lot were destroyed with injuries incompatible with life. About 5-10% look like they would live. Every one was gobbled up quickly though. Oh well at least the fish are fed when the pods pass though the pump! Here is a video of the experiment if anyone cares. VIdeo quality is bad sorry :(
OldReefer October 18, 2013 October 18, 2013 I have had lots and lots of pods make it through pumps. Calfo cites the same experience in hi books. The smaller they are, the better they seem to do.
gmerek2 October 18, 2013 Author October 18, 2013 Good news! My refugium overflows to the pumps. I have seen the pods get sucked down the overflow to the pumps i bet it happens more often than we think.
Coral Hind October 18, 2013 October 18, 2013 Nice experiment. I think most of the pods in our tanks are more durable than the delicate brine shrimp.
