BRS ROX 0.8 activated carbon..any link to Head and Lateral Line Erosion?

Recommended Posts

I know there has been a link between carbon and HLLE, does anyone know if this specific carbon has had any links...especially in Tangs?

Thanks

I remembered reading something awhile back that HLLE was mainly associated with lower grades of carbon, and that it wasn't as prevalent in systems that used higher grades of carbon such as Rox and Matrix. I believe it was in Advanced Aquarist.

The linkage to HLLE reportedly was correlated to carbon dust exposure. It didn't matter what kind of carbon it came from. However, softer carbon grinds down faster and easier. Rox is a harder, lighter form and has less dust to start with and this may work to its advantage.

You seem to be dead on.

. Thanks for the resposes...So, very important to wash the carbon after changing to remove the dust i would guess?

Yes. And for added good measure, you can add a fine pored filter sock after the reactor to catch any carbon fines that might come from tumbling.
