lutz123 October 1, 2013 October 1, 2013 So, one of the little islands in my Nuvo 16 has developed some white algae/fungus/bacteria (filamentous, sways in the flow, about a quarter to half inch long). It's spreading rapidly in this area. Since these couple of rocks also happen to have hydroids on them, I'm just going to yank them out and cook them. I wasn't able to find an easier fix and it should take care of it. My question is, how likely is it that I will have the problem on the remaining rocks or that it will develop elsewhere? There are no signs of it anywhere else now. Anyone have experience with this stuff?
smallreef October 1, 2013 October 1, 2013 Is it possibly the start of an algae like bryopsis? I can't think of anything specifically that is white and stringy...
lutz123 October 1, 2013 Author October 1, 2013 No...It would be really difficult to get a picture as it's primarily on the underside in darker areas. If you google white fuzz reef tank or fungus live rock I think there are a few images. It looks like fine wispy hair. It's almost transparent but definitely white. I've seen reference to chrysophyte but that looks like a broad description and I'm not sure it's definite. I just don't want this to show up again 6 months from now (though I guess I would not be surprised if it did).
flooddc October 1, 2013 October 1, 2013 Something like this? http://wamas.org/forums/topic/50740-algae/
lutz123 October 1, 2013 Author October 1, 2013 Not my picture, but this is what it looks like. When I try to photograph it just looks like a cloudy white area.
FrankieGee October 1, 2013 October 1, 2013 Can't tell what it looks like on my phone but could it be pineapple sponges?
trockafella October 1, 2013 October 1, 2013 Hair algae not getting much light therefore lacking its color.
