Supernova26 June 30, 2013 June 30, 2013 My AC froze up last night. I let it melt but i believe it's low on refrigerant. My tank is getting hot quick. Anyone here is certified and has refrigerant handy. Please pm me. Thank you
Coral Hind June 30, 2013 June 30, 2013 I can't help you with the refrigerant but did it freeze up on the inside or the outside?
steveoutlaw June 30, 2013 June 30, 2013 If it froze up on the outside unit, just leave it off until it thaws and turn it on again.........and keep your fingers crossed.
Coral Hind June 30, 2013 June 30, 2013 If it froze on the inside then make sure you are getting proper air flow over the coil by changing the filter, open up any closed vents, clean the coils.
Supernova26 June 30, 2013 Author June 30, 2013 Thanks for the quick response guys. It did freeze both outside and inside. The air flow seems good from what I can tell. the inside coils are clean but a bit rusty on the sides. I cleaned the ice up pretty good but as soon as I start the AC the " thin gas" lines that takes refrigerant into the coil covers up with ice instantly. Don't know if thats normal but don't remember seeing that before. Maybe it's time for a new AC.
roni June 30, 2013 June 30, 2013 I had the same thing happen due to a coolant leak. One thing I hadn't been doing is changing the filter, so worth at least checking if that's the issue. If it's a coolant leak, it gets pricey fast unfortunately. I think Jenn had a number for someone she liked in your neck of the woods. Supernova26 June 30, 2013 Author June 30, 2013 thanks Roni. I really think I might have a small leak somewhere. i am hoping some kind of HVAC quick fix sealant can fix the problem. I have completely removed the filter for now just to see if anything improves.
