swimmatte April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 Looks very much like my condylactis, post RBTA battle.
bluce April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 I have a pretty large LTA - for a few years now - looks like a smaller version of mine. I vote LTA.
Coral Hind April 25, 2013 Share April 25, 2013 It looks like an LTA. If you are able to get a pic of the underside to see the verrucae please post that.
Integral9 April 25, 2013 Share April 25, 2013 (edited) iirc, LTAs only plant their feet in the sand, so unless it's foot is planted in the sand bed it's not an LTA. If it does though, that would explain why it disappears; it's retracted into the sand bed. My old 12" purple LTA would retract into the sand so far that you could only see a small tuft of tentles poking out about the size of a dime. Another distinct marking of an LTA is a white spekled bottom (underside when open) of the tentacle plate. I don't think any other anemone in the hobby shares that. i have to say though, it looks more like an GBTA to me that's lost it's B. <- spekled tentacle plate bottom of purple LTA Edited April 25, 2013 by Integral9
MBVette April 25, 2013 Author Share April 25, 2013 Ok based on that pic it is a lta. It has the speckled base and that bright red foot. He has been MIA since I took that pic a few days ago.
Coral Hind April 25, 2013 Share April 25, 2013 If it looked like that pic with white verrucae on it then it was indeed M.doreensis.
MBVette April 25, 2013 Author Share April 25, 2013 so now I just need to figure out where he is hiding. Is it normal for these to hide for a bit when first being introduced into a tank?
Coral Hind April 25, 2013 Share April 25, 2013 Kind of normal. The more different your tank is from the one it came from the more likely it will be to hide I think. If the bottom of your tank was viewable you would be able to see the foot on the bottom pane. I would just let it be for a couple of days and see if it pops back up. Often when new they will come out at night and when the lights come on they will close up until they get used to the lighting. So try checking on it in the morning. MBVette April 25, 2013 Author Share April 25, 2013 unfortunatly being acrylic the bottom of the tank is supported all the way across so I wont be able to see him that way. I think I have an idea where he is, which is behind a rock that I cant see behind from the front. I might take a ladder and see if I can spot him from above in the morning. Integral9 April 25, 2013 Share April 25, 2013 It's probably right where you saw him last, just under the sand. When mine moved around, it would float around in the water, (think spinning ball of stinging death) not crawl around like the other anemones. MBVette April 26, 2013 Author Share April 26, 2013 So I think he met the MP40 last night. Came in this morning and I had a blob of something in the impeller and stuck onto the whole wetside. Couldnt make out what is was, but my best guess is that he went floating for a new home and didnt quite make it.
