scott711 October 3, 2005 October 3, 2005 What is the over the counter supplement for Magnesium? I don't remember. Thanks, Scott
Lee Stearns October 3, 2005 October 3, 2005 You got it Eric epsom salt- cheap easy mix in a cup with RO/DI and pour in fuge- it will raise salinity so it needs to be used as replacement water rather than top off water

ErikS October 3, 2005 October 3, 2005 Here's a starting point on the subject - Dr. Randy's Mg article or Craig Bingman's Homemade Supplement
Lee Stearns October 3, 2005 October 3, 2005 Randy Holmes is the man when it comes to chemistry- always has a cheap mans way to do it! And if you can only understand half of what he says in any article it is well worth the learning!
ErikS October 4, 2005 October 4, 2005 And if you can only understand half of what he says in any article it is well worth the learning! I know how that goes, for me Randy's articles involve - read->ponder->re-read->ponder->re-read.............
GaryL October 4, 2005 October 4, 2005 the problemi seewith randy's writings is that if you do not understand chemistry it is easy to get mixed up with the chemical reaction stuff. sometimes too much info will only confuse. i would like to see some "in a nutshell" type of writings, then move on to the advanced stuff.
Lee Stearns October 4, 2005 October 4, 2005 you can find the nut shell in a lot of places- The problem about it is ,unless it comes from a guy like Randy - it is almost just opinion- this is what works in my system kind of thing- Randy actually tests every analysis that he does- shows the chemical process to show that there is empherical data for his recommendations.

I bought 4 lbs. of epsom salt today, to help raise my magnesium. I was trying to find a thread about how much to dose... I found http://reef.diesyst.com/ It makes no mention about the salinity raising, and I'm trying to figure out just how it would, seeing as how its magnesium sulfate... no sodium or chloride... I just want to be safe with dosing this. My intention is to bring my magnesium from 1120 up to at least 1200, and closer to 1300 if I can do it safely.
SteveM February 2, 2007 February 2, 2007 There is a video at Reef Videos that simplifies the two part additives and also talks about hosw much epsom salts to mix up and when to add it. Its the video that shows the dowflakes in the pic.
