After I had a leak in my ProFlex Sump I decided to take the tank down. After speaking with a lot of WAMAS members I really do miss the tank and want to put it back up. Thank you to Quantum Reefs for helping me with my sump and about all of the equipment. Listed below is the parts I am using and I am just waiting on the new RLSS skimmer to come in on Thursday then I will start placement of all of the equipment to begin adding water. I will post pictures Soon. Any advice you can give me would be amazing!

Here is a couple of pics. The first 2 are a little 4 gallon Evolve tank I made to a small reef, the 3rd pic is a 8 gallon evolve I have. Pics 4, 5 are the sump with the LED light (not sure of brand but it was growing SPS), 6 is the 40 gallon breeder, 7 is the overflow, 8 is some of the plumbing using schedule 80, and the last pic is my 20L frag tank holding items till the 40 gallon is running. The light over the frag is the one I got for the 40 Breeder.

wow, like your list of equipments. wondering why you are running bio balls in a reactor?

In the old tank I had some issues with algae and I tried GFO, and Carbon. After talking with Quantum Reefs they said you can get away from GFO if you get the BioBalls going well so I wanted to try that out. I did convert it with the shims they recommend in order to run the BioBalls. Figured it could not hurt (even though in the beginning you get more growth). For the equipment im sure I did like most first time reefers and got all of the wrong equipment and had to repurchase lol. Im a lot happier with this list :) Edited by Tracy G

bio balls, interesting. i was thinking about going away from gfo by switching to biopellets and algae scrubber. didnt even think of using bio balls. lett me know how that works out.

..... Ok so it seems I am not so bright. lol It is Biopellets and not BioBalls I will correct it

ok cool. they said to add a little when you start off or you will end up with cloudy water. nothing beats good quality equipment. they usually are reliable and last for years which in the long term saves you more money than buying cheap equipment that breaks after a year or two.

Yeah I actually starting running the pellets on my frag tank (that will be broken down after this tank is ready) to start the process. I did not get cloudy but I did get ciano breakout within a few days and I have seen that is normal. Starting to balance out now but it needs at least a month break in time. Im in no hurry so if its algae problem at first no biggie.

Looking good so far Tracy. you're gonna love that RLSS skimmer... the ability to reduce and increase the flow to maximize the bubbles in your skimmer is gonna be really cool.

yeah I'm excited. Plus that gives me 2 DC3000s lol. Great pumps so far

Let the cycle begin! I have a good amount of live rock in my frag tank I will be taking down so I did not put it in here yet. But got it full last night and everything is running great!post-2633272-136103850035_thumb.jpg

Waiting is the hardest part.
agreed but I still have a few other tanks to play with in between. I don't think it will be a long cycle because of all my well established live rock but I am going to make sure to do things very slow.
Lookin good! Though your sump looks a bit full...have you tested the power off siphon yet to see how full it gets?
yeah I have. It does have a bit too much right now but my salinity is a little low so I'm sure evaporation is not going to hurt. I have an ATO to put on it at some point.

1 question is should I have lights on during cycling? I have heard both ways but not sure what you all thought.

I don't think it does much. But, that being said, I liked looking at my rock sometimes when I came home at night. Your tank will cycle either way.

i would leave the lights on if you have coraline algae. i see you are putting the absorbing mat at the bottom of the stand too. are you going to put a skirt around your stand?

yeah I will dress it up a bit after I get it running well. My main concern was being able to keep my house from water damage after the last issue lol. I don't have anything with coralline at the moment but once I put the live rock in I will. Good info thank you

Here is a couple of updated pictures. I added some of the live rock I have (that does not have coral on it) to help the cycle along. If you look at the 2nd image I have something green growing not sure what it is but I dont think its harmful lol. Mounted the light, and added 2 Two Little Fishes reactors one running BioPellets, and the other one running Carbon. I am running them with a Ehiem 2000 plus thats T'd off to run both reactors and it is working great (thanks Vince).
