dmatt56 February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 Hello everyone, In your experience, what are the idea parameters for ricordia and mushrooms? I have both in my tank, and I love them. The rics don't grow too much, but they all look healthy. One rock of mushrooms looks awesome on the left of the tank, but the ones on the right tend to detach and float in the tank. Could I have too much flow on the right? Thanks Matt
Wes February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 Too much flow and too much light seems to slow them down, as well as too clean of a tank. When I used to add aminos, these guys seemed to grow much better.
zygote2k February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 low current, med to low lighting, and fairly dirty water.
Coral Hind February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 I agree with the low flow and medium to low light. Ricordia seem to like a slightly more light than regular mushrooms.
treesprite February 11, 2013 February 11, 2013 IME, putting mushrooms in slightly shadowy areas encourages them to "stretch" up, giving the impression that they are larger even if they haven't grown any faster than shrooms in more light. The shrooms I have in higher light don't look as big when the light is on, but when ilights are out, they are the same size as their shadowed cousins.
smallreef February 11, 2013 February 11, 2013 Have to agree with the slightly dirty water...and adding amino acids to the tank...
dmatt56 February 11, 2013 Author February 11, 2013 Which brand / type of amino acids do you recommend?
Coral Hind February 11, 2013 February 11, 2013 Unless you have a low nutrient system the daily feeding of the tank should be enough to add amino acids. This thread might help. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1998102
smallreef February 11, 2013 February 11, 2013 I feed pellets all but 2 days a week so I add brightwells coral amino 1 day a week....
Wes February 12, 2013 February 12, 2013 I wasn't ULN, but I ran biopellets. In my scenario, I saw a noticeable increase in growth of corallimorphs when I started adding aminos regularly.
