MBVette February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 (edited) So I just took PAR readings can you let me know what you think. Currently my lights are set at 85% for the whites, 70% for the blues, and 55% for the red and green. Just for reference here is the actual rock layout. Edited February 1, 2013 by MBVette
Jason Rhoads February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 Are these readings done without water in the tank, or is that an old picture?
MBVette February 1, 2013 Author February 1, 2013 Old picture. Just so you have an idea what my crappy rock drawings actually are
ridetheducati February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 Not sure what your asking. What kind of feedback are you expecting? Too much PAR, not enough PAR, adjust aquascape. What kind of animals do you intend on keeping?
MBVette February 1, 2013 Author February 1, 2013 to much not enough PAR is what Im looking for. Mostly a mixed reef, mainly LPS and softies maybe a few pieces of SPS. With PAR 180ish at the highest rock formations can I put acro's?
Jason Rhoads February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 I would say that you have enough for that mix. The acros may not color up as nice as if they were under 300 PAR, but they should grow. Will you be feeding the corals as well?
MBVette February 1, 2013 Author February 1, 2013 Here is the reason I took PAR readings. My aussie gold torch and a bright green frogspawn have turned white. I thought I was bleaching them out, but dont think thats the problem based on those numbers. They are both located on that center rock formation.
STEVE February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 Scott, Check all of your water perimeters...We always want to blame our lights first, me included... which it might be, but post all of your numbers. Also, what is the photoperiod for your lights? ammonia nitrite nitrate ph salinty calcium alk phosp
MBVette February 1, 2013 Author February 1, 2013 ok so my lights are on for longer than most but its in the lobby so they have to be on. They turn on at 630 and ramp up till 830 and then ramp down from 430-630p. Ammonia 0 nitrite (dont have a test for it) nitrate 0 ph 8.17 salinity 1.024 calcium 380 alk 6.9 phosp .03 These are from tests over the course of this week. I have ordered some 2 part to fix my alk and calcium numbers, so next week I am going to start working on that.
F&Fmgr February 1, 2013 February 1, 2013 light is only half the equation to bleaching....water clarity is also a factor. Like in a new tank.... Sean
