Sharkey18 January 13, 2013 January 13, 2013 My Kole tang looks like it should be in the movie Alien. He has had a bulging abdomen for weeks, and about 2 weeks ago he had a open sore right where the bulge is. It healed on it own but I am assuming that's not a good sign. I put the fish trap in yesterday and so far every other tang is going into it. I'll hopefully catch him tomorrow. Once I do, what is the likely culprit and what should I treat with? FYI This fish was in QT for 8 weeks, treated with prazi and copper.
Coral Hind January 13, 2013 January 13, 2013 That is strange, kind of looks like a tumor. My Niger trigger has a tumor on his jaw. Fish get tumors sometimes just like people, except sharks, they are known not to ever get tumors. Keep me posted, I'm curious as to how it turns out.
Jan January 13, 2013 January 13, 2013 That bulge and pinched abdomen looks like parasite infection to me. Is it eating and not gaining weight? Wasting? Ulcer that cleared up? Didn't you have anthias that developed ulcers? Here's a link with several signs & symptoms. Pick the one that best suits what you're seeing. Good luck! http://www.angelfire.com/ar/equineimages/tcdiseases.html
Jan January 13, 2013 January 13, 2013 (edited) Laura, this is an extreme case. The bulge in the upper abdomen, where the stomach is, is what I'm fixed on. "Tang Internal Parasites... worse 3-11-08 Dear Mr. Fenner, <Mrs. Ridgeway actually.> Does this fish look pregnant to you or is this some sort of disease? It is the only yellow tang in the tank. <Definitely not pregnant, very loaded with internal parasites though. You need to get him into quarantine as soon as possible. He also looks mangled, did this occur while you have had him or did he arrive this way? Check out this link about parasites: http://www.wetwebmediacom/parasiti.htm; I would treat him with Metronidazole for the internal parasites then possibly Melafix afterwards to help with the extensive fin damage. I hope he is able to pull through.> Regards, <Good Luck. --Yunachin> Ohlan" http://www.wetwebmed.../ytangdisf7.htm Edited January 13, 2013 by Jans Natural Reef Foods
Sharkey18 January 13, 2013 Author January 13, 2013 He certainly isn't wasting. I'll let you know if I catch him.
marinap January 13, 2013 January 13, 2013 kind of looks like a tumor. I am with David. I would leave him alone for now. Prazi should have taken care of internal parasites.
