epleeds December 30, 2012 December 30, 2012 (edited) How much is the cheato supposed to tumble. I have a small maxi jet 400 in there and some of the pieces are coming off the cheato ball and floating in the fuge. Is that normal or is the flow too much Edited December 30, 2012 by epleeds
Coral Hind December 30, 2012 December 30, 2012 I would say that is too much flow. It shouldn't be breaking apart. Try cutting back on the flow and see if the breakage stops.
zygote2k December 30, 2012 December 30, 2012 refugium is an area where pods can take refuge from the harsh currents associated with reef tanks. chaeto doesn't have to tumble to grow.

I have some slight flow coming into it, so i will take the additional powerhead out. should i keep some live rock in there too or just sand and the cheato
rioreef December 30, 2012 December 30, 2012 My chaeto has never tumbled. Very slow flow off Tee from the return and never had a problem of it not growing.
zygote2k December 31, 2012 December 31, 2012 I put rock rubble and cryptics in the fuge along with several types of macro. gracilaria, halymenia, dichtyota, ochtodes, codium, and chaeto all do well together if pruned as needed to prevent dominance. My lightless fuge has worms, clams, tunicates, sponges too.
Coral Hind December 31, 2012 December 31, 2012 What kind of clams do you have in your lightless fuge?
