PotomacBoater December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 My TDS is creeping up, so I think its time to replace my DI And since the system was bought used 6 months ago. I figured I would replace all the other filters also. Will all (most) 10" Filters work on any RODI Unit? I run a PurelyH2O Optima CA RO/DI. Do I need to buy from them, or are theFilterGuys/Local stores the same filters? (any suggestions on good, cheap RODI Filters?) I assume you can refill your own DI filter or buy it prefilled the first is cheaper (but might decrease the life of the DI left in the bag because of exposure to air?) the second method is easier but more expensive? Do I need to buy a Chlorine/Choramine test kit? I think DC uses it, I'm just not sure if that is the cause of increased ammonia in my tank, even after a waterchange. Thanks!
epleeds December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 I have a spectrapure and just bought their filters.. Not sure if you can use someone else's on the system. how high is your tds at? how high do you normally let it go till you change out the filters..
PotomacBoater December 3, 2012 Author December 3, 2012 This is my first RODI system, so this is the first time I'm changing the filters its at 7 tds now I normally hear 5-10 is getting high (some people are more regimented than others)
Origami December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 Time to change. I change it when I see my TDS begin to creep up because at that point, you're not just passing ions, you're passing specific ions that are being released from the DI resin. Phosphate's among the early ones released so it's released in increased concentration. Refilling in bulk is fine. Just evacuate the air from the bag and seal it up well. Bulk reef supply carries all of the filters and DI resin, too. Oh, and be sure to pack the DI resin down in the refillable canister, otherwise it's not as effective because water will begin to channel.
smallreef December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 Yeah bulk reef supply, air water ice....most filters are 10 inches tall and th same diameters...but measure your just to make sure and check with the specs on whomevers website you go with... If your really worried about buying bulk DI use a food saver on it and seal it (do not extended seal it though...)
zygote2k December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 Nearly all ro systems for home use are 10" cartridges and this is what the retailer is selling you. Buy cartridges wherever they are cheaper. I haven't seen a big difference in the 3 types of sediment carts or the 2 carbon types. Membrane should be TFC instead of CTA. DI resin is usually sold in single serving packs, I throw out whatever doesn't fit into a re-usable container. Buy an inline TDS meter and monitor it to extend the life of cartridges and membrane. If incoming TDS is 150, and out is 8% or higher, change filters.
jimlin December 3, 2012 December 3, 2012 my tds was reading 5 after changing to all new filters. i had to add another chamber and now it reads 2 before di and 0 after di. dc water contains chloramine. i believe your system have 2 seperate inline meters. what is the reading before and after the di?
steveoutlaw December 4, 2012 December 4, 2012 BRK has filters and resin in stock. You could always take your filter housing out there to make sure it fits........or just take the old cartridge with you.
