Guest October 22, 2012 Share October 22, 2012 Both are good. I choose the Neptune because it had been around longer and I just trusted it more. I would say more people use it, but that doesnt mean that Digital Aquatics is bad. I love the iphone app for Neptune and there new customer support is great and they even replaced one of my units for free. The only problem with their customer service is getting a hold of them. You have to keep trying but they are very good.

nbgen12 October 22, 2012 Share October 22, 2012 I am a big fan of the apex...you can set it up for access anywhere outside the home network, and it is extremely easy to use once it is set up. The smart phone app is awesome to have. Customer service is also top notch. It has endless possibility for upgrade and expansion also. Origami October 22, 2012 Share October 22, 2012 I'm a user of Neptune products, myself (AC-III and then Apex). I've not used a DA Reefkeeper, though. We have a number of members, I think, that have used both. At least one recently changed out his RK unit for an Apex, I'm pretty sure. If you want more resources, it's easy to find them. Here's a few: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2007005 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2029200 http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/aquarium-controllers/91523-pros-vs-cons-apex-aquacontroller-vs.html

[Although, I would never even think of switching as there is nothing my apex can't do and I've never had a problem with it]

Some have tried both and settled on one. Some have and run both. Both of the latter should have an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each. hypertech October 22, 2012 Share October 22, 2012 I've used a Reefkeeper (generation before the current products) and the AC Jr and Apex (Neptune products). The reefkeeper worked fine, but I think Neptune is the better platform. Most of the complaints on the Apex aren't really complaints about the Apex but rather network setup to get outside access to the controller that would be an issue regardless of whether it was an Apex or a RKE. Overall, it does seem that there are more complaints about post-sale support with Digital Aquatics (Reefkeeper). Neptune has well regarded support for their customers.
