Chad August 13, 2012 August 13, 2012 My tunze nano wavebox produces an audible "click" every time the pump turns on. This is something that it's always done and hasn't ever really bothered my in my generally noisy apartment. However, with moving everything to the garage in my new home, I thought I would see if anyone out there has had the same issue with tunze controllable pumps and potentially has a solution. Thoughts? Thanks all!
hypertech August 13, 2012 August 13, 2012 I pulse mine and don't let them stop. That's my solution. I think its common and I don't know that there is much you can do about it. But, if you find something out, let me know too.
Chad August 13, 2012 Author August 13, 2012 I was considering that... not sure how it will work with the wavebox. I'll try it and see how it goes. Separately, perhaps I'll pulse Roger on it.
Coral Hind August 13, 2012 August 13, 2012 Yeah, I would email Roger. I did find this thread over at RC. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1888774
Jan August 13, 2012 August 13, 2012 Mine makes the same noise. If you find out how to get rid of the noise please post it. Jan
rioreef August 15, 2012 August 15, 2012 My Tunze pumps will do that if it starts from being off. Being in a wavebox does not matter. You could try a new impeller, but that will probably not fix it. Going to pulse mode so the impeller never has to start from a complete stop would be your best bet. Roger at Tunze USA is awesone. I had a problem with my 6055 and in the end it was discovered the motor was failing (intermittent problem). I paid a total of about 125 for repairs and got a completely brand new pump (motor, housing, and impeller). Much cheaper that a brznd new one.
Chad August 15, 2012 Author August 15, 2012 I asked Roger in his RC forum: http://www.reefcentr...d.php?t=2202100 The short of it: In the time you had it, did you ever change the drive unit and disk? These were updated in late 2010 and are much quieter now. Parts 6055.740 and 6055.700 should at least halve the noise. You will need to remove the old disk which will require a tool like our 0220.707, you can also get this type of pick tool at most auto or hardware stores, usually a pack of 4 asst picks is $5-10. I never changed the disc. I'll order the parts, replace them and update.
Chad September 28, 2012 Author September 28, 2012 So I finally did the swapout that Roger recommended... The click is still there... but it's no where near as loud... Livable in a quieter room, now
steveoutlaw September 28, 2012 September 28, 2012 How old is the pump? I know that my pumps were clicking and Roger recommended changing the impellers. Work like a charm now.
