flooddc June 24, 2012 June 24, 2012 Nice! what type of light you have them under? Tell me its isn't LED's
ridetheducati June 24, 2012 Author June 24, 2012 Nice! what type of light you have them under? Tell me its isn't LED's 400w MH XM 10K. The strategy I normally take is grow the corals out for 12-24 months under 6,500 Iwasaki or 10K and color them up under 20K radiums. Several years ago, I ran (2) Iwasaki and (2) Radiums under the same canopy. I thought about LED's much like everyone has, but I am sticking with a bullet-proof lighting solution.
Coral Hind June 24, 2012 June 24, 2012 Nice growth rates!! It appears the monti caps didn't grow as much as the acros did.
ridetheducati June 24, 2012 Author June 24, 2012 (edited) Nice growth rates!! It appears the monti caps didn't grow as much as the acros did. To the contrary, I have been on a mission to completely eradicated all elements of Monti Caps. The green cap that you see grows in total darkness. I am throwing caps in the trash on a weekly basis. My next setup will not have any Monti caps, maybe a island for encrusting caps. Edited June 24, 2012 by ridetheducati

GraffitiSpotCorals June 24, 2012 June 24, 2012 What ballasts are you using? I still really like 10k's. Are you supplementing or just running the xms? I get really good colors out of my coral already I think after a while I may do the 12k reflux. Seems like you have nice colors on yours too.
Mike Mann June 24, 2012 June 24, 2012 Ill be happy to take a nice sized piece of green cap off your hands next time you need to throw some away.

Lumatek and old PFO HQI ballast, lights run for 9 hours per day. No other supplementing lights. Edited June 25, 2012 by ridetheducati

ErikS June 25, 2012 June 25, 2012 ........To the contrary, I have been on a mission to completely eradicated all elements of Monti Caps. The green cap that you see grows in total darkness.............. Kind of looks like the "green highlighter" aka the "green cancer" (grows like a weed & is near impossible to kill) I have it....same, same - constantly trying to eradicate it (along with some green pavona)

Ryan S June 25, 2012 June 25, 2012 400w MH XM 10K. The strategy I normally take is grow the corals out for 12-24 months under 6,500 Iwasaki or 10K and color them up under 20K radiums. 400w MH XM 10K's are probably the fastest growing light you can get. Your photos demonstrate that. I found the colors weren't so great, but backing them up with 20k's after they've grown in, sounds like an excellent strategy.
ridetheducati July 6, 2012 Author July 6, 2012 (edited) For those that are interested; I have free Green Montipora Cap ready for pickup. Also, I have other SPS corals available for a nominal fee. Top right section of reef: Edited July 6, 2012 by ridetheducati
