Help me plan my 36x24x18 set up

I may as well chime in here too.

My tank dimensions are very similar to yours. Mine is a 36x36x20 acrylic cube with a false wall overflow in the back, effectively making my tank 36x28. I use a single DIY 108w 3 channel LED light built by Robert Chu (chucelli on WAMAS). I also use a single Koralia 4 for circulation.

My return pump is a Mag7 running WFO and the stand is 36" tall, so I have similar flow requirements as your tank. I use the AVAST CS2 skimmer. This tank is super simple and works as effectively as others costing 3x the amount.

If you keep it very simple, you will enjoy it more.

 

FWIW, a 24" Current USA 250w mh w/4) T5's would be a perfect light system for your tank. You should be able to pick up a used one for $250 or so.
