gizmoody March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 My Kole Tang was hiding between some rocks today lightly disturbing the sandbed and while I was checking it out visually it spawned!! It was kinda creepy because I felt it was something I wasn't supposed to see. Has anyone else seen this in their tanks?
Fishie March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 Whose the daddy... I've never seen tangs spawn ...grats...pics, video ?
Jan March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 That is amazing. Happy lil guy. You've met all of it's needs. Kudos!
zygote2k March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 What do you mean by "spawned"? Fish either eject sperm or lay eggs. Which was it?
Coral Hind March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 Do you have more then one tang in the tank? They normally do it together when the lights are out and it happens high in the tank and not on the sand bed.
gizmoody March 25, 2012 Author March 25, 2012 Was there any Barry White playing at the time? Now that you mention it...
gizmoody March 25, 2012 Author March 25, 2012 Unfortunately it happened so fast and I was so stunned that I didn't have time to take a pic before the MP40 took care of it. I got this Kole Tang a few days ago from the LPS the day in came in from their supplier so maybe it was primed and ready, happened to land in my tank and had to release. This is how it went down. Steveoulaw was passing by in his car playing Barry White really loudly as I was watching this fish messing with the sand between a few rocks. All of a sudden I saw what looked like massive streams of denser water with a cloudy center coming up through the rocks from the exact space where the Tang was hanging. I can't be sure if they were eggs or sperm as I don't have enough experience with fish porn. Sea urchins yes. The insane flow in my tank dissipated it quickly and a few seconds later the Tang was out swimming again. It all happened so fast...so it's probably a male releasing sperm, or so I hear.
Coral Hind March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 So you didn't actually see it coming out of the fish? I think what you saw was the fine detritus and sand that the fish stirred up.
Jan March 25, 2012 March 25, 2012 (edited) Hmmm, sounds a little fishy to me. Maybe it has a problem. Too excited? PE? I didn't but I had enough of a view to know there was no where else it could have originated from. It wasn't fine detritus and sand. I know this tank really well. I admit there could have been a snail there that spawned but I couldn't see any.
