Magnets to skin steel stand

I am looking into skinning a metal stand with wood facing attached via magnets.

 

How do these http://www.magnet4less.com/product_info.php?cPath=71&products_id=606 look to you? They are really cheap at $1.19/ea

 

I was thinking one in each corner of a piece of 1/2" wood. I just need it to "stay put."

 

Also, any opinions on what type of wood I should use? I plan on painting it satin black.

I might go with the 1" magnets. I used them on my 120. The front panel was 1/4" 48x35 and had one magnet epoxied to each corner and was on there very well, no chance of falling off.

We got some pretty strong magnets at Harbor Freight. If you have one near you, it might be worth a shot.
