Cris March 1, 2012 March 1, 2012 Hi, I have a mated pair of jawfish and tonight we noticed what appears to be eggs in the males mouth. His mouth was fully extended with the eggs very visible for a bit and now his mouth is shut and we obviously cannot see the eggs. Does this sound normal? Was he just aerating the eggs? Thanks in advance for any help. Cris
L8 2 RISE March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 Yes, it's normal, he'll spit them out occasionally to aerate/clean them. Are you trying to breed them?
Cris March 2, 2012 Author March 2, 2012 No, came as a surprise! Would be pretty cool but I read it is extremely difficult to raise the fry. Have you bred jawfish?
Jan March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 Yes, this is what they do. Very cool, Cris. You're doing great! Take pictures.
extreme_tooth_decay March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 (edited) At least one of my African cichlids pretty much always has eggs in her mouth...some of the fry survive to adult size with absolutely no help from me, it is fun to watch. Edited March 2, 2012 by extreme_tooth_decay
Coral Hind March 2, 2012 March 2, 2012 Very cool Cris! Keep us posted on the progress of this. *moved topic to propagation & breeding section*
Cris March 2, 2012 Author March 2, 2012 Thanks everyone. It would be very cool if some of the fry made it. I'll have to give them to you Jan sin Ed yours jumped!
