Hi, I have a mated pair of jawfish and tonight we noticed what appears to be eggs in the males mouth. His mouth was fully extended with the eggs very visible for a bit and now his mouth is shut and we obviously cannot see the eggs. Does this sound normal? Was he just aerating the eggs? Thanks in advance for any help. Cris

No, came as a surprise! Would be pretty cool but I read it is extremely difficult to raise the fry. Have you bred jawfish?

Yes, this is what they do. Very cool, Cris. You're doing great! Take pictures.

At least one of my African cichlids pretty much always has eggs in her mouth...some of the fry survive to adult size with absolutely no help from me, it is fun to watch.

Thanks everyone. It would be very cool if some of the fry made it. I'll have to give them to you Jan sin Ed yours jumped!
