tandldel January 23, 2012 January 23, 2012 My 37 g set up As of 11/13/2011 I am trying to do a small tank with as little equipment as possible. 6 years ago I had a 92g Bow front with all the Bells and whistles that was a mixed reef with heavy SPS,LPS and loads of equipment. I had to sadly break it down when we decided to hard floors and do built ins on the level of the house the tank was on. When doing the built ins 6 years ago I built the cabinets with reinforcement to hold a tank on each side and wired a load of electric underneath. Of course its been 6 years before I got around to getting back to the hobby. I am so impressed the new gear so I wanted to go simplistic this time--So here is my set up.. 40 g starfire glass tank Ecosystem 40 Refugium JBJ Nano LED Light custom cut acrylic cover VorTech MP10W JBJ T3 Digital Heater/controller BRS Top Off Dosing Pump 5 g tank for top off using KAlK Eco Tech Radion XR30 30 lbs Pukani Dry Rock BRS I also use an RO You will note that I am not going with a protein skimmer at this time--I had great luck with this 40 Ecosystem on a 40 before growing SPS for over 5 years on a previous tank without one. I found once the first several months are over after lots of water changes as it stabilized it was not needed--we will see. I also tried a different approach this time going with dry rock. I thought I'd do everything from scratch and avoid the hitchhickers that plagued earlier tanks. I used Dr Tim's to cycle the tank which took 3 weeks to get everything to 0...I also have had not Phosphate issues with the rock but test often as I have seen other threads with bad stories..My experience has been great...Just cleaned them really well before starting...Love the nooks and crannies awesome rock!!! Live Stock Cheato in the fuge.. did not start with enough Ocean pods to seed Green Chromis Yellow Watchman Goby and Red Pistol Shrimp 3 Fire Gobies Gold Banded Coral Shrimp Cleaner Shrimp Clean up crew in after 2 weeks used the 33 hex from reefcleaners included 45 Dwarf Ceriths,12 Nassarius,14 Florida Ceriths,12 Nerites I added 3 emerald crabs, 2 porcelain crabs & 3 serpent stars Corals Monti Cap LFS Green Tip Birdsnest ORA LFS Wellsophyllia "I still call them that" LFS Pink zoanthids--Lord of Rings LFS Red Goniopora --ORA local store I will attempt to load pictures as I am not the best photographer please excuse At this point I am at 5 weeks and my levels have been constant and good. I am getting some green film and have started doing some water changes. i believe I have overfed a bit as well as my light cycle is at 12 H. Here are some pics it may take me a few uploads JBJ Used some compact lighting as it cycled as I waited for the radions

tandldel January 23, 2012 Author January 23, 2012 The tank has settled in nicely for being a few months old. I am very happy with the Radion and the growth and color I am getting from the SPS. Overall I am very happy with where the tank is to date. I will be adding the GHL stand alone dosing pumps soon. I was able to meet a few of you at the winters meeting this weekend and look forward to seeing more of everyone and their tanks. Also I picked up the Black Ice clowns at the meeting. Here are my latest shots
tandldel January 23, 2012 Author January 23, 2012 Looks good so far. Like the LPS. Thanks, unfortunately I lost my wellsophyllia at the beginning of January. I had it in a position where the flow was too high as well as the light. I tried to move it but was too late.
tandldel January 25, 2012 Author January 25, 2012 Ted, looks great! The clown pair was a great pickup. Tom thanks I'm glad I got them.

tandldel February 14, 2012 Author February 14, 2012 Looking good. Really like the progression pics you posted on reefcentral. Roni thanks and yeah that has been fun doing the growth progression shots with the radion. I just checked out your thread really nice tank! I'm going to be upgrading this to a rimless later this year and was deciding between miracles and reef savvy and have been leaning toward miracles. I really like the blue background on your tank too.
tandldel February 20, 2012 Author February 20, 2012 I finalized my order for my sump , skimmer and refugium with Jeff at LifeReef. Got the CLF1 sump with SVS2-24 in sump skimmer with probe rack. Also a custom 12 x 20 x 18 refugium. Should deliver around May. This will clean up the look of the DT big time by removing all the HOB skimmer, refugium and set me up for the later tank expansion. Wanted feed back on the refugium..I am leaning on going bare bottom with just Cheato but thought I'd hear some feedback. My Ecosystem has sand and Cheato now and I find the detritus piles up in there. This is probably do to the lack of flow due to the small pump set up. I wont have that problem in this new system as it will T off the return which is a mag 12.
tandldel February 29, 2012 Author February 29, 2012 I got some new frags today ORA Purple Plasma Staghorn ORA Blue Voodoo Staghorn ORA Purple Stylopora ORA Tri Color Valida Acropora ORA Green Velvet Acro ORA Acropora - Borealis ORA Staghorn - Scripps Green Tip Purple plasma Blue Voodo Stag Purple Stylo Tri Color Valida Green Velvet Borealis Scripps FTS
