Homemade Frozen Food Recipe

I don't think that there is a staple "recipe". The more variety you have in it the better for the fish. Here is what worked for me.

I went to Super H and got some fresh

Shrimp

scallops

2 small squids

a couple of different white fish fillet

nori sheets

mussels

added up some Selcon, cyclopeds, golden pearls and some spirulina powder. Ran them thru a blender and made enough food for a year. My fish corals and anemones go crazy for it.

Did you ever have any issues with contaminants? ie, bacteria etc? I'm thinking about making my own food too. I'm just concerned about something getting into my tank. What did you do, as far as sterilization?

I would think freezing the food would take care of any bacteria.

Here's the recipe from the RC TOTM post referenced above:

Mantis' Prime Reef Food

Roughly 3/4lbs each of the following:

shrimp

oysters

mussels

5 live clams

Mix the above ingredients in a blender, until coarsely blended.

Then stir in the following ingredients:

1 container sushi eggs

large chunk of Cyclopeze

1 tsp Spirulina powder

2 tsp Golden Pearls ground into a powder

I have been known to add a couple squirts of selcon, vita-chem, or garlic extract

Pour into Ziploc bag and freeze flat. Feed as needed.
