Reefoholic June 1, 2011 June 1, 2011 Guys, I received my Brightwell Aquatics Reef Code two parts today. Anyone using these products? When I mix Reef Code A, the solution gets extremely hot and there are still flakes in it after several hours. It says on it to mix 70 grams with 8 Oz RO/DI water and no matter how hard or long I shake it, the solution won't clear up and there is residue. I am gonna check it again in the morning. Help greatly appreciated!
dakotasreef June 2, 2011 June 2, 2011 Did you mix both parts together? You could already have high calcium in your ro di water.
Reefoholic June 2, 2011 Author June 2, 2011 I mixed both parts separately. Code B mixes in with no problem, but Code A flakes up and no matter how much mix the solution, it won't get clear. I am considering trying BRS 2 part at this point. What do you think? Would that be the same too if the problem is my RO/DI? I live in DC, and I use a Typhoon III unit to filter my water. I mix my own salt water as well and that is NeoMarine Salt from Brightwell. It dissolves with no problems... Did you mix both parts together? You could already have high calcium in your ro di water.
Grav June 2, 2011 June 2, 2011 Double the water and dose 2x as much. You may not need that much more water to full disolve the CACL, but it keeps the ratio easy.
Reefoholic June 2, 2011 Author June 2, 2011 So the instructions are 70 grams for 8 Oz water. You are suggesting that I go 140 grams and 16 Oz. water? Cos I tried that earlier tonight and still same result... Maybe my batch of the powder has gone bad or something! Frustrating! What do you guys use for 2 part? Double the water and dose 2x as much. You may not need that much more water to full disolve the CACL, but it keeps the ratio easy.
FearTheTerps June 2, 2011 June 2, 2011 what grav was saying was just double the ammount of water, say 70 grams in 16 oz of water. that will make the solution half as potent as per the instructions, so you will then have to double the amount of the solution that you are dosing to get the same amount of calc.
