skipperawe January 12, 2011 January 12, 2011 hey all, i'm getting back into the hobby, so i thought it good to upload some photos of my tank in it's new state a few frags of the other kenya... shrooms zoa-ish things Xenia-maybe so, that is my tank in it's new decrepit state, hope you enjoyed... COMMENT :bounce:
encideought January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't see any of your pictures
Origami January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 I see the pictures. Looks like a cube with some shrooms and kenya. No algae to speak of. Looks like you have a HOB filter with a screened intake down in the lower left of the tank (along the back). Mushrooms look kind of brown - could be low light. Kenya polyps look closed up for the most part. I don't know if it's water quality or what. Coralline growth looks good on the walls and on the glass. Coralline like's lower light, so that may be part of why it's looking solid. Hard to tell, but the tentacles on the paly's look tight, too. Oh, an no powerhead to be seen. Your flow is indeed inadequate. You should get a powerhead in there. Maybe a maxijet or a koralia 1. This may be your biggest issue up front. Lighting would be second. That is, if your water parameters are decent.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 as the top of my first picture says.... i took these pics. after spot feeding... my bad
Origami January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 First advice: Test your water to get a handle on what you have. Second, improve flow in the tank. Third, get some more live rock in there - elevate your corals while augmenting your biological filtration. Then wait - maybe change out your lamps if they're really old.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 oooh. no it doesn't i thought it did well it should. I TOOK THESE PICS AFTER SPOT FEEDING/ FEEDING MY FISH
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 yea.. i'm thinking about a new aquascape, but i don't want to get too concerned about it as i may be switching to a 20L soon.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 aaaaaand. i just did a 20% water change... salinity is at .022... moving to .024 later next week
Origami January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 yea.. i'm thinking about a new aquascape, but i don't want to get too concerned about it as i may be switching to a 20L soon. Uh oh. Upgrading already. He's hooked. A goner for sure. Get some good lighting for that 20L.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 hold up.... i have been in this for 2 years... and i am by no means within a good chunk of time till' i switch. and the 20L would probably have some t5s... i like the idea of LEDs, but id be afraid to screw it up/ burn the coral
Origami January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 First a 12. Two years and a 20. Next, it'll be 75, then a 120.... yeah, we've seen it before. "My name is <fill in the blank>, and I'm a reefaholic." Just kidding.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 i believe it... (Mr. Lin.) right now though i'm more of a computaholic.. :hammer:
zygote2k January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 I'd keep the 12. Sure, it's a little crusty, but with a little cash it would be a fine 12 instead.
Coral Hind January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 Why do you spot feed? Those corals will be fine without it.
mogurnda January 13, 2011 January 13, 2011 I'd keep the 12. Sure, it's a little crusty, but with a little cash it would be a fine 12 instead. Why do you spot feed? Those corals will be fine without it. What they said.
skipperawe January 13, 2011 Author January 13, 2011 its not that the 12 is bad, i'm just that im thinking of upgrading and would rather not get my 12 perfect before having to take it down
davelin315 January 14, 2011 January 14, 2011 Tom, Glenn was hooked years ago, as soon as he got the 12 his dad got the 72!
