Ok....couple of questions about the media basket in my nano cube 28 gallon.

1. Do i need to get a bigger media basket than the original as depicted here? media basket

2. There are 3 sections in the media basket. I currently have some media in the top chamber given to me from the LFS. Some rubble rock in the second chamber and more media in the third. There is alot out there on what to put where, but i wanted to get some more info. Cheato? Carbon bag? Chemi-pure?

I guess filter floss needs to go in the top one. I was just wondering when i should take out the old media and possibly remove the rubble rock from the basket and input this new stuff?? I will be adding some clowns that i will be picking up at the meeting next week, so i would like to have the tank ready to go and make few changes once i introduce the fish into the tank.

LFS did a water test today and everything came up in acceptable range.

1-You should speak with Steve of inTank,. He can custom make one for you if the standard one doesn't fit. The Basket should fit perfectly.

2-some put chemipure, purigen, filter floss. Filter floss should be changed out often. It will cause a rise in Nitrates. Some add macro, RR, a light and chemi pure. It depends on how you want it.

You don't ever have to take out the RR. It's good for your system. The filter floss should be changed out often. chemipure once every 2-3 months as suggested by mfr. I'd get an InTank light for your macro.

(Sometimes it pays to remove the live rock rubble, so you can clean detritus that gets trapped under the rubble. You're ok to put it back in afterwards, though.)

+1 for StevieT larger then stock mediabasket + I like the larger blue filter pads as I cut them ahead of time to shape and are less messy to remove.

Under that almost always carbon/chemi pure/ and if you want cheato and a velcro on light (LED closet lights have worked for me)

I've seen several threads about high nitrates that were cleared up by removing live rock rumble - I know suggest if you have rumble in a fuge or somewhere you can have a clean up crew then cool - otherwise your display rock should be enough.
