I want to have my return from my sump terminate in something like this: LINK (tank is not drilled or going to be)

I will have rigid PVC all the way from the return pump to this piece. Do people just hang it on the top of the tank? I'd feel better if it was clamped to the rim somehow. Is there a piece to do that?

Do you have a euro-brace? I have a euro-brace on my tank. I have holes drilled in the top. Mine is rigid PVC to the hole and then the LOC line goes in through the hole. So if you have a brace, maybe you can drill some holes. I suspect that you don't. My last tank was reef ready and pumped back up that way. You could make the rigid PVC hang over as a right angle and then use the LOC line, but you will drop your pressure.

I would just hang it over the edge. I have done that many times and it's never been an issue. The only problem you might have is with positioning it if you use tubing versus pipe to get up to the tank.

If you want to have it stay in place, though, you may want to consider just gluing a piece of acrylic to the rim and run it through that. Or, you could always drill...

I use electric conduit straps. If your stand is wood, screw it into the stand. Otherwise, I weld them to 1/4" acrylic and then put double stick foam tape on the other side of the acrylic. This makes it easy to attach it to the back of the tank.

One or two supports is generally enough.

I use a small drill bit to make a small slot in the plastic tank trim, the horizontal piece that a tank lid would sit on, then pass a cable tie or zip tie through it to secure the pipe.

I was thinking about that, but I'm not sure how far up the glass extends inside the plastic...it seems like it would go almost to the top. Do you angle your hold diagonally through the corner?

Is it a hole all the way through, or a slot in the top? If it is a slot, how do you get the cable tie to hold?

thanks

You are thinking of a different location. I make the slot in the ledge or lip of the plastic frame that is inside the tank. The horizontal ledge that the cheap cover/light strip would sit in on.

Ah, right. That sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

I've used cable tie mounting pads that have double stick foam tape on them to stick to (well cleaned) glass with very good success.

Go to Lowes and look up Item #: 292685 to see what I mean.
