Happyfeet May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 Hi guys, I picked up a RBTA from Trockafella a couple weeks ago. It's looked like this since I've put it in It hasn't moved around at all so I don't think lighting is the issue. Params are Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 2.0 PH: 8.1-8.0 dKH: 9 Calcium: 440 Salinity: 1.027 Temp: 80 All the params seem to be where they should bet yet it doesn't look like its too happy.
zygote2k May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 maybe it's too hot. your tank will run much better overall with lower temps in the 75-78 range.
Happyfeet May 5, 2010 Author May 5, 2010 Hmm alright. I'll try and figure out a way to get this sucker to run a little cooler. Thanks for the input!
Coral Hind May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 (edited) It doesn't look bad to me. The lights might be too strong depending on the tank it came from. The temp is fine as my anemone tank has not been below 80 in weeks. I don't keep my SG that high. Are you using a refractometer or a hydrometer/swing arm? Edited May 5, 2010 by Coral Hind
Happyfeet May 5, 2010 Author May 5, 2010 (edited) Came from a MH/T5 set up if I remember right I've got it under 4T5's right now Refractometer. Calibrated it before I posted this using ro/di water Edited May 5, 2010 by Happyfeet
bbyatv May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 One thing I have found with BTA (I have a green and a rose that has split twice) is that they like caves or crevices. Mine both like to be located in caves that they can pull back in to when they are unhappy or at night. Your BTA is very exposed sitting up very high on a rock. Maybe bring it down in the tank a bit and put it in a crevice or near an opening that it can move into. Bruce
Coral Hind May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 Why do you think something is wrong with it? It doesn't look bad to me.
trockafella May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 (edited) I think t looks fine as well, but I also agree with bruce, mine usually stay low or in caves, currently you cant even see bc its on the inside of a rock structure.. Have you been feeding it at all..? I never target feed, just curious if you are feeding it.. And the tank it came from does run around 76 degrees usually.. But I doubt that matters though.. Happyfeet May 5, 2010 Author May 5, 2010 It looks fine? Maybe I'm just crazy then... From what I read and have seen they didn't normally look like "rock anemones" they extended their tentacles a little more. Also had someone else comment the anemone it didn't look right, that its tentacles weren't extended like they should be. Maybe I'm just worrying over nothing. I've target fed it once since I've had it.
trockafella May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 Im sure David can chime in on extension, I know he was doing some research on it, but mine arent always extended all the time either.. You may want to move it and see what it does, tryputting it on the bottom near the rocks and see how it reacts..? There is nothing wrong with being concerned, its much better thing than not careing and ignoring potential problems..
cabrego May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 It looks very pale to me, I am not sure if it is just the lighting in the pic or if that is the true color. It also seems over inflated to me but it is really hard to tell from that pic. Did you acclimate? If it was the location I figure it would move to a place that it liked better..mine have no problem moving as they wish. Temp in my tank is usually around 78-80 so I don't think temp is an issue either. I have an RBA GBA and Hadonni.
Happyfeet May 5, 2010 Author May 5, 2010 No the color is deeper than it is in the picture. That was taken with my cellphone, can't seem to find the cord for my camera. I'll look around tonight and see if I can get a better picture. Trock, mine has never extended more than this. That's what bothers me. Been monitoring the params and they haven't changed from whats listed above, except temp which drops a degree or two during the night.
Coral Hind May 5, 2010 May 5, 2010 I still think it is just the lighting. Your bulbs are new right? What color temp are the bulbs and how long are they on for? If I remember correctly I think Trock had a lot more blue in his tank which would have been a lower intensity then what you have. Plus in his tank it was not as high or in direct light.
