treesprite April 3, 2010 April 3, 2010 I bought a couple of bulkheads tonight at Aquarium One, went to try one out in the hole that was already in the tank (am going to drill a second one), and the bulkhead is a couple hairs too big. Then I compared the hole to the drill bit I got from BRK and the bit is also a couple hairs too big to fit in the hole. So, I'm assuming the bulkheads are heavy duty and my bit is heavy duty, but that the pre-existing hole was drilled with a non-heavy duty bit. I don't know if Aquarium One will take back one of the bulkheads or not, nor where I can get a non-heavy duty bulkhead near my location if they will take one back. How hard would it be to make the pre-exising hole a couple hairs bigger if I can't easily return this bulkhead and get a non-heavy duty one?
Chad April 3, 2010 April 3, 2010 I have used course garnet sanding bits on a dremel to sand glass to a larger hole. This works, but go REALLY slowly, lubricate with water it if possible, and wear safetly goggles.

Forest, the bit you got from us is a regular 1 1/2 bulkhead bit, UNLESS it says HD on our bar code sticker, but I am 99% sure I brought you one that was made for regular bulkheads. I only sell the HD ones to people that buy my heavy duty bulkheads because I know they fit. I would get a regular 1 1/2 bulkhead made by lifegaurd and I bet that would fit your hole. John

John The circumference of the drill bit perfectly matches the circumference of the bulkheads that I got. The bulkheads don't have anything on them to indicate that they a heavy duty, they just seem like they are to me compared to the 1" ones I have - they have on the bar code sticker, 1 1/2" NPT Long. The 3/4" bit I have is a heavy duty bit - if I ever use it, would I have to use a heavy duty bulkhead or would a regular one still work? I wish Martin was around for me to ask him what he had in this hole. I have used course garnet sanding bits on a dremel to sand glass to a larger hole. I have used metal ones that came with it to sand down the edges of glass that I cut - they worked very well for that purpose.

treesprite April 3, 2010 Author April 3, 2010 Alright, I'll see what I can do with this hole with the dremel, and will pray and cross my fingers that I don't screw up and ruin the tank. Thanks guys.
