jason the filter freak March 30, 2010 Share March 30, 2010 (edited) 1/2 Gal not 1/2 Lieter I have been completely bummed since tearing down my tank, and not participating on wamas nearly as much as I'd like to. But until I graduate I don't have time for a big tank again. I had a crazy idea to start a tiny tiny pico a while ago but never acted on it. Well I'm going to go for it. I'm going to use this tank It's going to be impossible to clean when/if I get corraline algea but I'll deal with that then I wanted to go all DC with the tank so that I could make it battery powerable and transportable for the heck of it if I wanted it. I was going to do this by using LED's for lighting but I just don't have the time do DIY leds right now i'm going to use a PC light. So... Supplies: 1/5 gal Marina Betta tank 10 watt PC coralife 50/50 bulb 1 standard/medium base light socket ~40-50 gph DC power head DC cooling fan misc acrylic scraps misc wiring and dc power supplies weldon bird mirror (this will become evident later) acrylic rod/ridgid airline tubing touch of aragonite dash of LR possibly LED moon lights No i'm not going to do any fish just a couple of hermits maybe a sexy shrimp or pom pom crap or some other tiny invert Stay tuned! I'm going to try and be pic intensive to make this interested and trying to stay motivated Edited March 30, 2010 by jason the filter freak

jason the filter freak March 31, 2010 Author Share March 31, 2010 OK so here goes I began construction tonight. The soldering iron is to help cute some unwanted plastic parts on the tank, I learned from trying this project previously that a dremel tool can not be used on this tank with out disastrous results. What do you think of my cooling fan? Its actually the cooling fan off of my 47 I was using to vent the burning plastic smoke This is the DC pump 50 gph that I plan to use to run the tank. I'm thinking between the heat output from the pump (2.5 watts) and this light the tank will be right around the temp i'll want or need. Found an old scrap of acrylic to use as the false wall. I used the score and break method... almost got a clean break.

jason the filter freak May 3, 2010 Author Share May 3, 2010 I dropped and broke it a little while ago, but I went out an bought a new one an hour ago. I'm also done the false wall/overflow and will post pics of that soon. Its going to be my reward to myself for completing finals. What does anyone think about a pair of sexy shrimp and a couple hermits in this tank?
Hilary May 3, 2010 Share May 3, 2010 I've got sexies in my 3 gallon pico and they seem to be dealing really well with the salinity fluctuations.
treesprite July 3, 2010 Share July 3, 2010 Awesome use of the bird mirror! As inventive as you are for finding new uses for things, I imagine when you see objects they automatically imprint as the missing piece to a totally unrelated puzzle (as in this hobby). I'm looking forward to see the end result.
