El Camaron January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 if a buy falls through then my choices are the following, anyone have good or bad reviews? I dont understand the micorn filters they use, i am asumming they are basically the same. Any help would definitely be appreciated. BRS 75 GPD RO/DI 5 Stage Standard System $173.45 shipped OR AWI TYPHOON 5 Stage RODI Reefkeeper 75 $160 shipped with WAMAS discount
Brian Ward January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 I believe they're basically the same. As I recall, both have an ASOV and use Dow Filmtec membranes. The micron filter sizes are about the same - that is designed to gradually remove more and more sediment to minimize the amount of work the RO membrane must do. the AWI model can be upgraded to a 150 gpd membrane w/ a new flow restrictor - I did this and love it. Also, just let them know that you need the carbon block for chloramines and they'll swap that out (check with your water supplier, but you most likely need it). AWI is also a club sponsor, so I would go with them.

El Camaron January 21, 2010 Author January 21, 2010 thanks Brian, so would you reccomend i get the 100 gpd, its the same price. And later on upgrade to the 150 like you mention.

No, the 100gpd membrane sucks. The rejection rate is low which causes it to consume your DI more quickly. Get the 75gpd and then upgrade to the 150 later. I highly recommend the dual electronic TDS meter - you hook this up after your RO and after your DI and just push a button to see the TDS of your output water - it helps you identify problems early - whether it's your RO membrane not filtering out enough or your DI being exhausted.

Fazio92 January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 I use the BRS 75gal/day, which also can be upgraded to the 150gal/day. I love it, plus they usually have a monthly deal on them where they throw in something extra. When i go got mine a few months ago, they threw in 5 extra sediment filters free! I got the TDS meter too and after about 7months my RO and DI still read 0ppm! Im pretty happy with them. -Anthony
El Camaron January 21, 2010 Author January 21, 2010 does anyone know what those points mean on BRS and how to use them?
Brian Ward January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 It's a customer loyalty program just like credit card reward points: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/brs-reward-points I'm guessing you get 1 point/$ spent plus bonus points on certain items. So it's like a 1% coupon on future orders (100 points = $1 off)
George January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 I've used the AWI Typhoon for years. Works great. They also have great prices on filter refills. If it doesn't have the refillable DI cartridge, I highly recommend getting that when it's time for refills.
extreme_tooth_decay January 21, 2010 January 21, 2010 I'd go with the cheaper one and use the 75 GPD membrane.
overklok January 22, 2010 January 22, 2010 BRS is a great system I use the 5 stage chloramines, quick delivery, great prices on refills.
El Camaron January 22, 2010 Author January 22, 2010 i just noticed they have a 150 GPD cube ro/di filtration system that they say is just as good as the typhoon, anyways they are discontinuin it and is on sale for about the price range im looking, anyone have one of those by any chance?
amay121 January 22, 2010 January 22, 2010 I'd take the AWI just for the lifetime warranty. As long as the company is still in business, replacement parts are only the cost of shipping.

Just make sure it has the standard filters (13", I think). If it has all of the smaller, white, opaque cartridges, then the filters won't last as long.
