After filling my water changing bucket I noticed that the thermometer was broken and the metal balls inside were missing, are these balls lead, will it hurt to use the water on top and clean bucket after water change?

some folks say the balls are lead, some say steel, some say don;t worry, others say worry...Maybe one of our LFS can find an answer from the mfg company?

;) LOL... How are they doing? did you get my PM? You're always welcome here.

Thanks Jan, I don't want to kill these frags before I get a chance to sell them

where are the balls? If the balls only interacted with the fresh saltwater bucket, I would error on the side of caution and just dump it.

I broke one in my QT tank and never have had any problems. I sucked up all the sand where I thought they might be though.

Edit - I forgot to add - they can't be picked up with a magnet...

If a magnet doesn't work then they aren't steel, probably lead. I think you are fine to use the water. The sooner the better though.

that is why I stopped using glass thermos. I don't think I would use the water though. better safe than sorry.
