L8 2 RISE January 12, 2010 January 12, 2010 Can't wait to hear more! Tell us about the lights, set up, etc.!
ir0nma1den January 13, 2010 Author January 13, 2010 Now that I have some time I'll introduce myself and the tank... My name is Alex and I have been doing planted freshwater for about 3 years and have finally dipped my hands into the salty-er end. I'll be attending Virginia Tech in the Fall as a freshman and hope to keep my reef up and running while I'm away. The system: 10g AGA DIY ATO AC70 DIY LED (6 blue, 6 white) 2x Koralia nanos Livestock: 2x clowns... I think percs 1x cleaner shrimp 3x margarita snails 3x nassarius snails 1x turbo snail florida ricordea half dying brain, trying to nurse it back to health some GSP random zoas blue cloves that's about it so far....
ir0nma1den January 13, 2010 Author January 13, 2010 I'd like to bulk up on corals (hopefully less expensive) like a head of frogspawn, maybe a small torch, and other corals. where's the best place to find this stuff? (stores, people, websites, etc). I've been to Aquatic Obsession and BRK, both great stores, but a little pricey for me.
epleeds January 14, 2010 January 14, 2010 where are you located...most people sell frags out of their tanks...and are usually a good deal.
chucelli January 14, 2010 January 14, 2010 nice lights! The best way IMO to get corals is from folks here. Lots of friendly people. It's like shopping at a flea market except better. It also takes some strain away from wild corals. -Robert
Amuze January 14, 2010 January 14, 2010 Nice start on the nano. You should also check out Fins & Feathers in Ashburn. They always have nice frags at cheap prices. If you see something you want a frag of, just ask and I'm sure Sean will frag it for you. -Dave
ir0nma1den January 16, 2010 Author January 16, 2010 (edited) Got a ton of new corals from sportzfish and they are stunning! I'll post pictures tonight when everything opens up. thanks again. Edited January 16, 2010 by ir0nma1den
ir0nma1den January 17, 2010 Author January 17, 2010 Update: Left side: Left island: right side: right island: brain: If anyone wants the brain for free, just pm me. It eats mysis and I've dipped it in melafix once, I think it's doing fine.
ir0nma1den January 17, 2010 Author January 17, 2010 Update: The sun coral is open, but that is because the lights were off before I took the shot. Anyone know how I can keep them open all day? new monti cap
Jan January 17, 2010 January 17, 2010 Sun corals are no9n photosynthetic cave dwellers. They don't typically open at night. I was able to train mine by letting them go hungry and feeding the tank with lights on only. Now they open during the day.
ir0nma1den February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 this thread needs an update. tomorrow, I promise.
