Fazio92 September 17, 2009 September 17, 2009 Ok, so i picked up a geo calcium reactor last night and i plugged the pH probe into the ACIII and it read 96.4pH ?!?!? So then i took it out of the reactor and tested my tank against the other pH probe in my sump (which read 8.33) and the probe from the reactor read 10.0. So, my question is i know that i need to calibrate the probe, but with which solutions? Should i use the 4 & 7 since i'll be looking for a lower pH in the reactor? Also, being that it read 96.4 (umm i'm pretty sure the pH scale ends at 14.0, lol) could the probe just be bad? Any theories, help, etc.. all is appreciated! -Anthony
Origami September 17, 2009 September 17, 2009 I think you had a (very) bad initial reading. Flush the reactor to make sure the media is relatively clean of any contaminants before putting it in service (just to be safe). I would also recalibrate the probe using 4 & 7 solutions like you've suggested. Is the probe new or old? You may want to let it sit for a bit in your tank water to ensure that it's reading has settled before you pronounce judgement on it.
Fazio92 September 17, 2009 Author September 17, 2009 Yeah, i definitly think i need to flush the reactor considering it read completely different from the tank. Have you ever heard of a controller reading something like that though? 96.4? I would think they would be set to only read a pH from 0-14? Oh well, do you know any LFS that might have the calibration solution in stock?
Fazio92 September 17, 2009 Author September 17, 2009 Anyone know of a LFS in the NOVA/ rockville area that would carry pH calibration solution for pH 4.0? I already tried Aquarium One, they were out any others?

I've got a full bottle that I just ordered from MarineDepot... not even opened yet... you can have the whole bottle for what I paid for... or, just swing with a little ziplock bag or container and I can give you some for free... least I could do since you got the reactor from me :-).
