jason the filter freak September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 you'll never stick to it. its a nice list to start off with as limited as I am with SPS knowledge but the beauty of reef tanks is the natural flow of it. you'll grab some of the corals on that list but as you go on your tastes will change and your choices will sway and your tank will evolve with you and that is the beauty of reefing. Good luck!
CHUBAKAH September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 I've got a good portion of that first list, and then some. I'd add the Purple Nana from ORA. It's starting to take off in my system and looks like it will be very nice when it grows out. Let me know when your ready, and we'll see about helping you out with that list.

Sikryd September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 Looks like a good list to start. I'm a big fan of the Lokani's, Granny's, and Carolina's.
dbartco September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 Though I hate the fact that you HAVE to have all brand name corals, at least they are all propagated.
reefhunter September 6, 2009 Author September 6, 2009 Thanks Boret... if you say I have to have them... they must be good... ! I have about 1/3 of these... and I have another 1/3 sourced... and I will be going to Chubakah and DDiver and Sikryd for frags of the rest!! The real question.... can I fit them all into a 120 gallon?

Sikryd September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 (edited) Thanks Boret... if you say I have to have them... they must be good... ! I have about 1/3 of these... and I have another 1/3 sourced... and I will be going to Chubakah and DDiver and Sikryd for frags of the rest!! The real question.... can I fit them all into a 120 gallon? LOL!!!!! Thats all up to how much space you want to dedicate to eat species/frag. I have ~350 pieces in the tank now - they ALL get ~ 1" of space. lol Its a frag junk yard right now. Not really a reef, but it will get there. I just have to color it all up and move out the stuff we aren't keeping as part of the final display. I would leave it with that list, see where you are at for space, then keep in mind the growth, style, and color, then go from there. Your asking for HELP!!?!? It looks like you did a pretty good job with your last tank, that thing was sweet! I guess it depends on what you want it to look like. I like the look of 5-6" colonies (not for stags and stuff of course) with all kinds of different colors, textures, ect. - all growing together. Some guys like the 20" big colonies with 10-20 different corals max. I love the grown together full looks with all kinds of crazy nice colors and textures. I am emulating my tank "look" after others that I like. This is one of them. Its Mark Poletti's tank out of Sacramento. He's got a nice system, that looks good to me. I'm doing some different stuff though since I have a lot of LPS too. Edited September 6, 2009 by Sikryd
Boret September 6, 2009 September 6, 2009 Nice!! Mpoletti's tank... not bad for a guy that uses 20K MH Radiums and VHOs. Have you guys seen Oldude's tank? He has some amazing pieces and great colors. You can see it HERE.

Hmmm... I wonder how it compare to mine. bob

CHUBAKAH September 7, 2009 September 7, 2009 I've got a frag of the Grinch. Not sure what you would consider a decent sized frag, but this one is about 3/4" or so. Cut it about 5 weeks ago, so it is encrusting pretty good. I'll take a look when the lights come on for an exact size if you need it.
