treesprite August 30, 2009 August 30, 2009 I have been planning to order a new impeller due to the outer magnet coating being torn, but the BIG problem I had side-tracked me from doing it. WELL, a few minutes ago the wheel/cap part came apart from the magnet, with the magnet now being down in the well with no way to pull it out. How in hades do I get it out of there so I can put a new one in?
dschflier August 30, 2009 August 30, 2009 What exactly are you dealing with? Is it a power head or pump? what type?
treesprite August 30, 2009 Author August 30, 2009 What exactly are you dealing with? Is it a power head or pump? what type? Geez, left out the info. It's GenX 6000 pump that can be used both in and out of water.
Jon Lazar August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 Geez, left out the info. It's GenX 6000 pump that can be used both in and out of water. I'm not familiar with that pump, but can you use needlenose pliars or other tool to pull it out? The other thing I might try is holding the pump tight and use a snap of your wrist to try to launch the impeller out. I would do this outside though so you don't break anything. If you can post a clear picture it might enable us WAMASers to come up with other Rube Goldberg ideas. Good luck, Jon
sam75 August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 Try threading a screw in to the hole - use a drill if needed. Or use a bunch of super glue to make a handle of sorts and pull it out.
treesprite August 31, 2009 Author August 31, 2009 Try threading a screw in to the hole - use a drill if needed. Or use a bunch of super glue to make a handle of sorts and pull it out. I thought about superglue but I'm not sure it's strong enough. I thought about supergluing the top back on until my new impeller gets to me too, but didn't want to rush into anything like that. I stuck a couple powerheads in the tank until I have my pump going again :(
m3fan8ic August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 try pouring some vinegar let is soak for 15-20mins or so and then try to use needlenose pliara. I had mine stuck in there and after vinegar bath it came lose and pulled it out very easily.
reefmontalvo August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 A pair of Hemostats if you got them will work. The magnetic housing if going to have a strong hold so becareful in regards to pulling the loose magnet from the housing.
davjbeas August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 Put super glue on a end of a coat hanger wire insert wire in the hole and let the glue stick then pull out the impellor David
treesprite August 31, 2009 Author August 31, 2009 Some good ideas. I will start out by applying some vinegar, but the magnet is so strong that this impeller has always been very difficult to pull out (probably why the top came off - I was pulling on it to take the impeller out).
treesprite September 14, 2009 Author September 14, 2009 Having a new impeller definately makes a difference. Pump is working stronger and not as noisy. It sucked having powerheads in the tank, was nice taking them back out when the impeller finally arrived
