Sharkey18 August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 The recent discussion on dosing pumps has convinced me to get one. Anyone have a recommendation on which one to get or NOT to get? Any LFS carry them? Laura
Stephen August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 My experience and opinion is limited but I like the new ones from Bulk Reef Supply. Enough so that I ordered the one with a higher pumping rate to use as my new top off pump. BRS 2 Part Doser (1.1 mL Per Minute)
Boret August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 THIS is the best deal I can find. A Cole-Parmer Masterflex 7521 Console Peristaltic Pump for $68 shipped. Adjustable from Min flow rate: 1.7 mL/min (at 1 rpm with L/S 15 tubing) to Max flow rate: 1700 mL/min (at 600 rpm with L/S 24 tubing). All you need is tubing. Origami might be able to tell you where to get it. This is lab grade equipment that costs about $1000 new. It blows the ~$100 peristaltic pumps sold at most aquarium online stores out of the water
tygger August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 I'm using this pump: http://www.reefdosingpumps.com/products/sentry.html Can the BRS or Cole pump work with an autotopoff? Even though the Reef Dosing Pump claims "silent" operation, I can still hear it from about 6-8 ft away. And when the power goes out, I have to reset the dosing rate in order for it to work again (no backup battery). Looks like the BRS will work when the power is restored since it doesn't have a cpu built-in. Also, is a 2 roller (BRS) really better than a 4 roller setup?
rsarvis August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 What I got recently was Drew's Dosing Pump at Bulk Reef Supply. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Plumbing-and...oduct_info.html It is silent, as advertised. One thing is that the two pumps I got, if my initial measurement was correct, pump at slightly different rates. I put the faster one on the B-part, b/c I'm always lower in Alk than Calcium. Anyway, I'm new to using dosing pumps, so I can't compare these to others... I'm satisfied with mine so far, though maybe there are cheaper alternatives that I was not aware of.
Ryan S August 13, 2009 August 13, 2009 (edited) I don't have any dosing pumps yet, so all I can tell you is what I plan on buying. When I can afford them, I am going to buy 2 of these. I will use them to dose my BRS alk and cal 2 part system. BRS has never let me down on any of their other products, and the reviews are good too. The features are really great: BRS Doser Features Extremely slow 1.1mL per minute flow rate is ideal for dosing chemicals like two part. Silent operation At 4 hours use a day tube life is over 12 months Mounting bracket Includes approximately 17ft of extension tubing Two roller design extends tube life and will not back siphon Edited August 13, 2009 by Ryan S
