m3fan8ic May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 Hi, I have GSA standard 8 skimmer which has Eheim 1262 pump which I noticed this morning stopped working. I took it out and inspected it and put it back in and still no luck. There is not even a sound or anything. I am not sure what happened? Dan (@ GSA) if you read this can you please let me know if this pump is covered under warranty? Should I be really concern not having skimmer for few days? Thanks Sid
flowerseller May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 Does the impeller turn freely? If you have not been soaking it and cleaning it in vinegar regularly, that might the problems.
m3fan8ic May 23, 2009 Author May 23, 2009 no it doesn't turn freely, I didn't saok or clean it ever since I got it November 2008. Should go and try to soak it in vinegar? what kind of vinegar should I use? and how long should I soak it for? thanks Sid
davjbeas May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 I just had my eheim pump freeze three days ago. The impeller and the impellor rod were stuck. I soaked the pump and parts in muriatic acid. It cleaned every part of the pump of any calcification however I was to late to save the impeller. The white rod won't turn at all inside the impeller. there is calcification between the white rod and impeller on the inside where i can't get to it. I am going to try some WD40 but I think its a lost cause and I will need to buy a new impellor assembly. Good Luck, David
Jon Lazar May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 Can you use a small hammer and tap the white rod out of the impeller? I would not use WD-40. Vinegar is very effective at dissolving the calcium buildup, and vinegar isn't toxic. Good luck, Jon I just had my eheim pump freeze three days ago.The impeller and the impellor rod were stuck. m3fan8ic May 23, 2009 Author May 23, 2009 ok after soaking it in the vinegar I was able to take the impeller out and look what I found... I need new impeller...if you are wondering what that fuzzy stuff on the impeller is, that's mesh mod for this impeller. where can I get the impeller from?
davjbeas May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 I am looking for a source of the impeller also. I checked eheim website for parts and they want more than I paid for the pump for a new impellor. I will let you know when I find a good source. David
davjbeas May 23, 2009 May 23, 2009 (edited) What model number Eheim pump is it? It should say on the back panel. If you have the white rod for the damaged impellor I have the impellor for a model 1250 pump with out the white rod in good condition. David Edited May 23, 2009 by davjbeas

WD40 is just to get It loose enough to come out. Its no problem to clean the wd40 away and soak in vinegar. David ]

m3fan8ic May 25, 2009 Author May 25, 2009 just an update.. I was able to fix the same impeller and it's been working since yesterday aftenoon just fine. I'll be buying a backup 1262 just in case but as long as it's running I'll keep this.
m3fan8ic May 25, 2009 Author May 25, 2009 I kept it in vinegar for some time then shaved off the grove to make it smooth, I then cleaned the pump and chamber where impeller goes really well with vinegar. I made sure there are no groves/paticales that are sticking out which will rub against the magnet. I put everything back and it started running, no noise or anything. So far it's been running since Saturday afternoon and no issues.
