treesprite May 11, 2009 May 11, 2009 (edited) How should I frag one of these baby heads off? The base of the colony is hard, but the polyp bases appear to be soft. I do not have a dremel, so if that's what it needs, is there an alternative? I want to take off the largest of the baby heads. Edited May 11, 2009 by treesprite
lanman May 11, 2009 May 11, 2009 I haven't ever seen it done... I would think each 'head' is a polyp. You wouldn't scrape a single polyp off of a montipora, for example. I think you need to get a little bit of the hard part with it. Just my guess... bob
reefhunter May 11, 2009 May 11, 2009 I wouldn't frag that yet... it looks like there is not enough bone to cut right now... if you just cut the polyp it will die...

The bigger one is sort of in the back, hard to see. It has a little bit more hard area at the bottom than the smaller ones do, which is why it's the one I was planning to take off. If anyone can see what I'm walking about, does it look like enough? I'm getting impatient waiting to put a head of this in the clownfish tank.
Jon Lazar May 12, 2009 May 12, 2009 Treesprite, Looks too soon to frag to me. If you don't have a Dremel, you can make accurate cuts with a hacksaw blade. You can make less accurate cuts with wire "snippers" or heavy kitchen shears. Jon
L8 2 RISE May 12, 2009 May 12, 2009 I agree that it looks too small to frag, but do you remember when I fragged the frog spawn? That's how I would frag it... except if you have a dremel, that may be easier.
