onyx March 2, 2009 March 2, 2009 Just wondering what negative things there are about peppermint shrimp? I have about 10 new aiptasia in my rockwork that I failed to deal with when there was just one.. so now I have to. I would prefer not to add the chemicals to do it.. but I've never had a peppermint shrimp and was curious about any negative effects? I have a fire shrimp. I know some peppermint shrimp won't touch them. Thanks for the help.
Jon Lazar March 2, 2009 March 2, 2009 Peppermint shrimp are agressive feeders and will ****** food from your slow-eating LPS, especially when you target feed. I would always feed the peppermint shrimp first, but they seem insatiable. Peppermint shrimp will also feed heavily on your pod population. That doesn't mean you won't have any pods; just that the peppermints will make it so you have fewer. Jon

onyx March 3, 2009 Author March 3, 2009 Thanks for the info on the shrimp and kalk. I've never done that. Is there a ratio to follow?
zygote2k March 3, 2009 March 3, 2009 Thanks for the info on the shrimp and kalk. I've never done that. Is there a ratio to follow? No ratio- just make a thin paste that will go thru a plastic tipped syringe.
droyal1110 March 3, 2009 March 3, 2009 If you're lazy like I am I just bought joes juices and nuked 'em =D My peppermint eats what the fish miss, I only have one in my 55 gallon. Its my skunk cleaner shrimp that irritates me, eating out of my corals if he gets a chance.
onyx March 4, 2009 Author March 4, 2009 Not super lazy but this weather has been draining my energy quick. Does anyone sell Joes Juice locally?
reefhunter March 4, 2009 March 4, 2009 you can get aptaisia x from aquaco and brk. a downside to having peppermint (or any kind of shrimp) is that if you get red bugs you will have to remove the shrimp to kill the bugs... or kill the shrimp also...
zygote2k March 4, 2009 March 4, 2009 Not super lazy but this weather has been draining my energy quick. Does anyone sell Joes Juice locally? What could be more "lazy" than mixing your own Aptasia remover with kalk? Joes Juice needs repeated applications. Kalk is many times faster and stronger. Not to mention that you already have some.
onyx March 4, 2009 Author March 4, 2009 (edited) Thanks RH. I don't have any kalk yet, I was too "lazy" to go and buy any. Hopefully today. Edited March 4, 2009 by onyx
