jason the filter freak January 13, 2009 January 13, 2009 (edited) I'm thinking due to the small length and width dimensions of my tank I replace the 3 power heads I'm using now with a single Tunze. I'm reserved though because they are really expensive units. 1. Whats the big difference between the old Tunzes and the Tunze II's? 2. What is the smallest Tunze I can hook up to the tunze controller? 3. Are all Tunze Controllers Wavemakers? Basically what I'm looking for is one power head I can have act as a wave maker that can ramp up and down to create a wave effect, as well as a power head that can be dimmable(sort of) basically I don't need 1200 gph constanly blasting though my tank I don't want a pump that just cuts on and off I want one that fluxuates in GPH. Does the Tunze meet this or am I expecting too much? This is the one i''m finding but I want to know more before i consider a $300 + freakin power head http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~cat...ory~FIPHAD.html Why would I get that when I can get a koralia for half the price? dschflier January 13, 2009 January 13, 2009 Well I have been using tunzees for many years and have been very happy with them. Price is definitly a consideration but I was also told recently by someone who uses the Koraila that he has had a number of issues with the plastic piece which attaches to the propeller breaking. I am pretty sure this was the unit he was talking about. I will confirm this about the Koraila.
Brian Ward January 13, 2009 January 13, 2009 All of the "dimmable" tunzes are very expensive. The support you get with Tunze pumps is very good though. 2 year warranty and even after that Roger will work with you. Chip gets a new shaft for his pumps all the time. He has the old model that had some sort of flaw with the design. If the pump will hook to a controller, i.e. it's a variable output pump, then it is a wavemaker pump. The controllers are all wavemakers. If you have an aquacontroller, then you can get the aquasurf module and use that instead of the tunze controller. The smallest controllable pump you can buy is one of the nanostreams. The 6025 is the original, but that is not controllable. My internet isn't working very well, but look for one of the controllable nanostreams. Remember that you don't want to set the pump to run at its minimum. You should try to stay above the 20% mark so definitely don't oversize the pump.
lanman January 14, 2009 January 14, 2009 You want a Vortech.. Comes with built-in programs such as 'Reef Crest' - that vary the speed and volume around the clock, and even has a 'night mode' where it will run at lower speeds for an overnight period. You set the maximum speed with a dial, and the programmed modes can't run over that speed. bob

It works great, but to get that wave action i need to get another one for the oppisite side of the tank. I run mine on the pulse mode ( 100% down to 30%). At night it runs at 30%. I also am running (3) seio 1500 and (2) 6025. i want another 6101 so i can get some of them out of the tank.
jason the filter freak January 14, 2009 Author January 14, 2009 no vortec for me i need something that can be aimed. ok another question... is the controller included with the units or is it a seperate unit... if so are there diffrent controllers making one better than another?

Nope, controller is more $$$. If you buy the Tunze, you have to buy the Tunze controller. Same for other brands. Only exception is what I noted above. Neptune has a tunze controller that adds on to the AC Jr/III/Pro.

jamesbuf January 14, 2009 January 14, 2009 Jason, the Vortechs literally move a wall of water, so there is no need to "aim" the impeller. I've had Tunze nanostreams, regular sized Tunzes, and Vortechs. Nothing compares to the Vortechs. I'll never go back to Tuznes now that I've seen what Vortechs can do. You will never be able to do this: http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n151/ja...nt=P9090180.flv with a Tunze. Make sure you watch till about 50 seconds in to see what the top water level looks like. Also, cut the sound off. I had a minor spill and had the fans on to dry the carpet
jason the filter freak January 14, 2009 Author January 14, 2009 (edited) James man come on, I know you specialize in medicine, but you've seen my tank bro that would be a disaster in my tank . plus I need something where I can put the cord under water. steveoutlaw January 14, 2009 January 14, 2009 Jason - I have a vortech MP20 in my Solana.......it's amazing. I put it smack in the middle of the side panel and turned the intensity down to about 3/4 and there is not a spot in my tank that isn't getting flow. Plus, the controller comes with the vortechs.
ctenophore January 14, 2009 January 14, 2009 The neptune controller (aquasurf) for tunze can do the wave action like the vortechs. I'm thinking of using one on my big tank since I have ~5" of clearance to make waves.
SkiCurtis January 14, 2009 January 14, 2009 After seeing them in Macna I have been waiting for 1.5 years to buy them, just need that extra 1,000. I need 2 plus . you have to buy the batterry back up. plus they are wirless.... all those tunze cords... plus the nano stream tunze sucks. For what I know about buying tunze stuff, you can buy: - Just the pump - pump plus a single controller - only controls 1 pump - pump plus the 7095 multi-controller or pump plus neptune aquasurf- provided you have a Neptune controller to run it. BRK & Naga are both local tunze dealers. Beyond that, you can look at any of the major online e-dealers - champion, premium, marine depot for them. sample: http://www.championlighting.com/home.php?cat=612

Then I read about AGA aquariums falling apart at the seams. I don't do that anymore. bob
