Can anyone tell me about keeping a sally lightfoot crab in a reef tank, with fish smaller than the crab?

Should be fine... however I did find out that it is not a good idea to place a Sally light foot crab in a tank witha mystery wrasse... RIP Crabby....

They are very opportunistic and like Jason said and will go for easy meals but also help clean up. The one I have in my tank now once ate my sick mandarin fish. The poor thing was still alive but did not have the energy to escape. I would never buy a mandarin on-line again. They help clean up after feedings and are pretty fun to watch as they scurry along the tank. Mine is pretty big now but I do not have any problems from it.

I had great luck with http://www.keyscritters.com/

I bought a whole cleanup crew there when I got my 240. Including 6 Sally's... Over the course of the year - most of them have found a way to get out of the tank and die. But I still have a couple.

I've got 2 sally lightfoots already which are both in my clownfish tank where there isn't really anything to destroy unless they kill the emerald crabs and the snails that are in that tank, but clearly this tang isn't going to help me with algae any time in the next couple months.

I found some scary information that says these crabs will eat my fish and small inverts. I had an arrow crab once that plucked a new healthy 2.5" fish right out of the water when the fish swam under tunnel; I caught the crab with the fish half eaten and decided never again to pay that much money for a fish.
