dtfleming August 10, 2008 August 10, 2008 I like the look of the Radium. I wish they made it in a DE for 250W.
CHUBAKAH August 10, 2008 August 10, 2008 Does anyone have experience with this bulb and know if it will get less blue over time? Ron Yes, after it burns in for say 40 hrs or so, you will notice it gets a little brighter, and a little less blue. I love the look of my tank now.
GaryL August 10, 2008 August 10, 2008 Does the blueness make corals grow faster? the bluer of the spectrum the less growth you will have. or the highr the kelvin the less growth, the lower the kelvin more growth... the blue will however make some colors stand out or make the coral have interesting to outstanding coloration.
reefmontalvo August 10, 2008 August 10, 2008 So how would you know your HM bulbs are of the Coral growth promoting type? And what is the best Kelvin the use? And lastly Do having T-5 atinincs on with you MH bulbs really help. I feel the brightness of the MH will drown out the atinics blue light.
onux20 August 16, 2008 Author August 16, 2008 :( I decided to go back to my stock 14K bulb after three days for a couple of reasons. 1. Man, is the 20K Blue! 2. The light would shut off. At first I got about 20min. Then it was good for about 4hrs. I put the stock bulb back in and have been running it with no issues. So today, Sean at AquaCo persuaded me to try it out again. Saying the light will be less blue after a a burn-in period. So I am giving it another go. I paid additional attention to making sure I installed it correctly. Both contacts look to be solid, made sure I did not touch the bulb with my fingers, etc.... But the light keeps cutting out on me. The mfg suggests something may be up with my voltage. I am not sure since the 14K ran with no issues. Anyone have any ideas of what may be casuing this and what I can do to fix it??? Now I am going back to watch the olympic trampoline competition!!
onux20 August 20, 2008 Author August 20, 2008 Latest... I talked with Marine Depot about the light cutting out on me. They suggested to give it time and all will be well. I put it back in Monday night, and I have yet to witness it cutting out. I am not saying 100% it works as it should since I am not home for the entire light cycle. But for the 2-3 hrs I saw it last night, it was good. Also the light is either less blue or I am used to the color shift from the 14K. More to follow I am sure Ron
CHUBAKAH August 20, 2008 August 20, 2008 Also the light is either less blue or I am used to the color shift from the 14K. At least for me, the difference was pretty dramatic after it burned on. It still has that very blue look when it turns on, but it gets quite a bit brighter and less blue at about 10 minutes or so.
DDiver August 21, 2008 August 21, 2008 I like the look of the Radium. I wish they made it in a DE for 250W. well they do have Radiums DE 150w...SeaN(aquaco)says they will most likely have 250w coming soon..when?who knows..but i am definitely interested in switching to those as soon as they hit the market..
onux20 August 22, 2008 Author August 22, 2008 I want that snail. Haha. Funny thing... After a few days of his new found freedom, he made his way back to the zoas. I saw him yesterday but his camoflage is too good and I lost him again. Is it possible he is a predator and should be permenantly removed? As for the light, I thought things were looking good. The light appeared to stay on for the enitre light cycle but last night my wife told me it was going on and off again. This lasted from about 530-630.(2hrs in to cycle) It stayed steady until about 850, about 20min left in cycle, and cut out again until the end of the daily cycle. Anyone have any ideas? Bad bulb? Is it getting too hot? (never a prob with the stock 14K) Ron
jamesbuf August 22, 2008 August 22, 2008 What kind of ballast are you running? Maybe its the wrong kind of ballast? I've seen people run the Radiums on electric and HQI ballasts.
yauger August 22, 2008 August 22, 2008 What kind of ballast are you running? Maybe its the wrong kind of ballast? I've seen people run the Radiums on electric and HQI ballasts. I have been told the abesolute best ballast to run RADIUMS would be a PFO Pulse Start Ballast. now with that said I have found that PFO runs RADIUMS just fine but a bit on the bluer side... I have seen RADIUMS being run on ICECAP electronic HQI Ballast and RADIUMS run great. I think if your going to run them on a magnetic ballast you might have some issues. but then again its only my .02$

I will look whenI get hoem but CURRENT site says "HQI External" ballast. I think its electronic.
