Temp Problem..

HOW HAVE YOU BEEN DEALING WITH HIGH TEMP?

 

my tank went up to 83-84 with A/C running at 76..

 

I am trying to blow the air by adding one more..but i can't quite control..

 

i reduce the lighting hours to 6 from 10..

 

I have 1 250W Metal halide with fan..and one 4 T5 lighting..recently added (it didn't make any differences...tho..)

 

Corals are ok..except one Red Yuma is not doing good.....

I have the same issue with temp in my tank as well, anywhere from 81-84 and the only thing that seems affected are some acans. But everything in the tanks seems great. Good luck on trying to get the temp down. I'm on the fence of either getting a fan or a chiller.

Aim a fan at the surface of the water to increase evaporation, which will cool your water. For under $20 you can get a 6" fan at WalMart or another discount store.

I'm assuming you're running a fan across the water surface - add another?

 

Of course, chiller is the obvious, expensive answer. But if you don't want to go that route and are looking for a quick term solution, have you thought about adding a plastic baggie with ice?

I also keep my AC at 76 while we are home and 78 while we are not. The tanks are in the basement and I am pleasantly surprised that the water temperature in the tanks is only 79-80. It may be due to the fact that I recently replaced the 45 year old outside AC unit with a new high-efficiency unit. That was probably the best $3000 I every spent.

 

Because my water temps don't get above 80, I've never used my chiller...

I have this trouble also because my husband keeps the A/C temp high in our house. I keep half full plastic water jugs in the freezer and when it starts getting too high, I just float a jug in the water. It brings the temp back down. Just my way of dealing with it.

How high do you have the halides from the surface of the water?

I bought below fan from ebay which helped my alot with my heating issue..only thing is that I have to add a gallon a day to top off which is not bad.

I placed it on the tank and put a timmer so it comes on and off with my MH

I noticed the same thing happening awhile ago in my living room. I started turning the ceiling fan on during the day and that has helped a lot. There is definitely more evaporation, but I can live with that. =)

I'm using a $15 fan and it is helping a lot but I had to get an ATO cause I'm not home every day to top it off manually.
