Brian Ward May 20, 2008 May 20, 2008 What do you use fluidized reactor for? Do you run it 24x7? I would generally run it 24/7. It's an active way to run carbon, phosphate remover, etc. It's much more effective than hanging the media in a bag in your sump.
treesprite May 20, 2008 May 20, 2008 I almost forgot - isn't there a post on DIY on someone's DIY carbon & phosphate combo reactor? It looked pretty simple to make.
bcjm May 21, 2008 Author May 21, 2008 Don't you need to replace the carbon like once a month? Seems a lot of work and pretty messy to take it in and out. No experience with phosphate. Does it need to replaced like carbon in a regular basis?

Does it need to replaced like carbon in a regular basis? Yes, both need to be replaced on a regular basis. Same with a kalk stirrer - it must be cleaned and refilled on a regular basis. A Skimmer is actually the same - you need to take it apart, clean it and clean the pump on a regular basis to keep it working. I wouldn't think it's much messier than changing a bag of media - just strain out the water, pour out the media and add more. I haven't bought mine yet so I can't speak from experience.
