Hey Everyone, as someone who does it the old fashioned way (well, not totally old fashioned, I use timers instead of manually switching things on and off), I have long considered getting a controller of some sort. The drawback, though, is that I keep on seeing problems with the controllers being posted and every time I start to seriously consider it, I decide that the problems I'm seeing are not worth it. I am trying to find out if this is just a small snapshot of what people are experiencing or if everyone is experiencing problems. If you're willing, please answer the appropriate question (same thing, difference is in the age). If you answered any of the 2-5 responses, please indicate what went wrong and how it affected your system.

I tried to vote but it told me I didn't choose a poll to vote against.

Here's how I would have voted,

1 year or more - what sort of problems have you had?

None, works like a charm.

Any issues I've had have been operator errors.

Minor glitches for me. I highly recommend the AC3. Aquanotes is a completely different story though (terrible, crashy software). But once the replacement I'm writing with a buddy of mine is ready, that won't be an issue either.

Chip, you have to choose something for both polls or you get that error.

1 year or less for me.

No problem, not even a minor glitch.

Early on, I had a problem trying to calibrate the pH probe. Finally took the whole thing to BRK. It turned out that the probe was an ORP probe and not a pH probe and that someone had put the item in the wrong box.

I voted no problems - the only issue I've ever had is when the GFCI on a DC8 trips out it takes the ACIII a couple minutes to establish a connection = functioning as designed.

minor glitch, was easliy fixed.

The A04 plug cannot take an inrush of current like from the light. I just changed plugs and it works.

Other than that I have not had one problem with it since I've had it up.

So far, I am doing very little with mine. Turning the lights on and off, including turning them off if the temperature gets too high (it works). I have one heater controlled in case the others quit and the temperature drops too much. Turning the CO2 on and off. I have had no problems, but have only been at it a few months. It did an excellent job of recovering from my 15-hour power outage. Knew what time it was - turned the lights on, etc.

(edited)

should add choice to "Have you had to replace any parts?" probes/DC4/DC8

1 year so far so good....temp probe went bad after power failure @ 11months other then that, no real issues....
