willie May 2, 2008 May 2, 2008 i have a 75 gal tank right now i have 1 mag 5 for my return and 1 mag 7 for my skimmer. i would like 2 know can i use a mag 18 or something bigger to run my skimmer, return,uv,and my phos reactor all off of the same mag pump? I'll like 2 know is there a way i could hook my uv up to my return so all of the water out of my sump have 2 go trew the uv into my main tank?
flowerseller May 2, 2008 May 2, 2008 It depends if the mag18 has enough flow/pressure to run all that and that you have it plumbed to maximize that flow. I use a Hammerhead to run my hvdd skimmer, 220 display, Afarm, Frag tank, UV, chiller, fuge, Ca reactor and soon my media reactor. But I have it plumbed to maximize flow allowing me to do so.

One reason I chose to do that - I have ordered a battery backup system, and I don't want to run everything off of it so it will last longer. But I have more power outages than Chip does. Lots of options to fit your situation - and I'm hoping to combine some of my pumps once I've figured out exactly what I need to do for power out situations, etc. bob
Larry Grenier May 2, 2008 May 2, 2008 (edited) & Bob's heaters don't have much to do When planning, bear in mind that the UV probably has a max flow rate to be effective. (The nasties need to be exposed to the UV for a minimal time to be killed or sterilized.) Edited May 2, 2008 by Larry Grenier

In a bad pump situation, I have to take one out of the cabinet and undo two unions to get it going. It pays to have a planB

But I'm not sure how many hours I would get out of it. So I plan to have only necessary parts of the system running on the backup. When I get home, and can start the generator - then I can put everything online. bob
