Clyde April 27, 2008 April 27, 2008 I just got my first zoas coral and my peppermint shimp will not let it alone. the shrimp is constantly trying to clean the coral. The ? is, is this bad for the coral? All the polyps are closed when the shrimp starts up.
wreck April 27, 2008 April 27, 2008 If the frag is just introduced from another tank the shrimp may just be cleaning up some excess food or something that is left on the rock. After the shrimp is done cleaning the rock or plug the polyps will open up again. treesprite April 28, 2008 April 28, 2008 my understanding is that sometimes pepp shrimps damage zoas, and for that reason many people won't keep them
gmubeach May 17, 2008 May 17, 2008 I use peppermint shrimp for anstipstia(SP) control, my skunk cleaner will sometimes steal food fom zoos but leaves them alone afterwards.
smarsh97 May 17, 2008 May 17, 2008 I've not heard of peppermint shrimp messing with zoa's. Did you read this or did you hear it from someone? Just curious, if you read it somewhere I would like to read it. I've been missing a few zoa's in my tank. Are you sure it is a peppermint shrimp that you have in your tank Clyde? Camel shrimp look alot like peppermint shrimp except for a few minor differences. Camel shrimp can and do eat coral and are not reef safe. Sandy
