DaveS December 10, 2007 December 10, 2007 Just wanted to see what people out there recommend for dry flake food. I guess there could be different kinds based on the kinds of fish (carnivore/herbivore). Maybe what you guys think is the best one for each? I'd prefer to find something that is pretty common and easy to get. BTW, in case you're wondering, I'd mostly use this in between feedings of other foods like frozen mysis and cyclopeeze. Thanks!

flowerseller December 10, 2007 December 10, 2007 I have been feeding my tanks "Aquarian Marine flake" for about 20 years. Every fish I've ever had readily eats it, including my leapord wrasse.
Freezerburn December 11, 2007 December 11, 2007 I know you said flake but might I interest you in frozen DIY food? Just get a bag of mixed seafood mix from any store that doesn't use preservatives so you don't get those phosphate spikes. Blend it up and dump the paste into a ziplock bag freeze and rip off a piece whenever it's feeding time. rub it in the water, I've found it was all my corals and fish needed. a one gallon bag packed about half a finger nail deep lasted months and I've still got leftovers.
m3fan8ic December 11, 2007 December 11, 2007 Thanks for your idea, I will have to give it a try and see how it goes, b/c I am spending too much $$ on on frozen food from the store. Do I just mix it in blender with any thing else? Sid
quazi December 13, 2007 December 13, 2007 I have been using all sorts of flake for the last 20 years. Aquarian is my fav. Tetra is OK and Prime Reef and Ocean Nutrition is good too. Any good name brand will serve you well. DO NOT BY WARDLEY. The frozen food is great. Tthere used to be food making parties within WAMAS. It is an event that needs to take place when the weather is warm and the event can be held outside, as the smell is "just wonderful, and wifey loves the bouquet of fresh squid mixed nicely with algae and fish guts..." If you value your relationships with the females of the speices, stay with the flake
