lletellier November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 I have a toadstool in my tank that opened when I first put it in and hasn't since then... does anyone know where they do the best? like how much light/flow is ideal for them. I have it close to the top of the tank and right across from my powerhead i'm wondering if that is too much light/flow.
NRehman November 27, 2007 November 27, 2007 (edited) Mine is doing well under 250w MH at 24" depth with good flow, but no direct flow. Edited November 27, 2007 by NRehman
lletellier November 27, 2007 Author November 27, 2007 k i'm gonna put it down lower in the tank and see how that works out
bk_market November 28, 2007 November 28, 2007 i find that my toadstool leather like medium flow and medium to high light.
lanman November 28, 2007 November 28, 2007 Mine likes moderate flow and light. It sometimes closes up for 2-3 days at a time. Well, it used to. I don't think I've seen it closed up for more than one evening in quite a while. Come to think of it - even my GSP used to do that when the tank was young and the GSP was new to the tank. Now it's never closed up. bob
Grav November 28, 2007 November 28, 2007 When they are closed up, I usually find they are getting too much flow, light or both.
rottloverr November 28, 2007 November 28, 2007 Mine is in the far left frontish corner with mid - high flow on it. Mid level not directly under 150 MH. It has prolly doubled its size since I got it 4 months ago. Cheers, Sean
lletellier December 1, 2007 Author December 1, 2007 I came home today after moving it off to the side and under the power head so it is shaded from the halide and it was open again after almost 2 weeks! def one of my favorite corals so i'm hoping it will be able to grow now.

I think toadstools are neat corals. I have a couple (one green, one brown), buth of which are at least 5-10x the size they were when I bought them. I've found that they both like medium light and medium flow. They both did poorly when I had them too close to the light (and it's only PC lighting). tim
txaggies07 December 2, 2007 December 2, 2007 (edited) Mine closes up about 30 minutes after the lights go out every night and opens back up right when the lights come back on. Usually he opens up for a couple hours in the middle of the night too. He has never closed up for a day except for on one day where I was moving him around a little more than I probably should have.
