The package label says "new" on it, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been on the market for a while.

It has no copper in it, doesn't require testing just proper use, is supposed to work for many types of illness. Not safe for inverts.

One of the indications on it is for use as a preventative with new fish, so I was thinking about trying this with the new chromis instead of copper.

Any opinions on this stuff?

All-in-one remedies usually treat nothing effectively. They don't list the active ingredients so it's a bit hard to tell what they are using to treat the variety of maladies listed on the packaging.

What are you treating the Chromis for? If it's just a general prophylactic treatment, stick with hyposalinity until or unless you have specific symptoms to address. Then use a medication specifically for those symptoms.

It has the chemical listed but I couldn't tell you what it is without having it in front of me.

They are fish I ordered on line - I believe this will be the first and only time I get fish that way. The site did not say captive bred, so I'm assuming they were wild-caught and could be having any sort of bug.

The smallest one appears generally unhealthy and I'm afraid it won't survive - no spots or anything, but it still won't come out of hiding, is slow, the others were picking on it so it's tail is just about gone. I put it in a plastic breeder box to keep the others from nipping it. I don't know if the tail was initially already tattered or not - I need to watch to see if it's growing back.

Another one of them has a white bump (not a tiny dot like ick or amyl. would be) on the bottom edge of its lower fin (sorry, don't know all the fin terms). It's tail has a little tatter, and I don't know if that's pre-existing or a nip from the other fish.

My only other option is to set up 2 QTs if I should only be treating 1 or 2 of the 4.

I am finishing up a treatment with the stuff on a hippo tang. In QT it got a bad case of ich. One day after starting it, the fish looked much better and had no visible signs of it in two days. To be on the safe side, I am running through the entire package of 16 tablets (one per day/10gal), that 16 days for me. A normal treatment is 5 days. Easy, no testing, just drop one tablet into the floating dispenser.

Talk to Sean at F&F about this. He is using this in his tanks as well. He can address the active ingredients in it, how it works and what and what not to do during treatment. Certain types of fish should not be exposed to this treatment, again Sean can give you the info.

I think I'm going to see if this little fish starts looking better while spearated from the others without getting nipped, and if it doesn't in a day or 2, I'll put it in an entirely different QT and treat it by itself. I have to also watch the fish with the bump on the fin and figure out what it is so I know if I should also treat that individual. I believe these will be the last of the fish stock for my tank - I just don't want them to get the others sick and wipe me out.

And Forrest,

Not sure what kind of lights you use in your QT, but I think you'll find the stripes on your fish will be brigher under the main tank lighting.

The fish that looks unhealthy to me happens to be the only one whose stripes are bright. I'm starting to think that maybe with age they lose their contrast, but I hope that's not the case (the other 3 appear to be fully mature fish). I'm hoping they all brighten up under regular tank lighting - they just have a general household T-5 over them right now.
